The axes are one of the most useful weapons in Sons of the Forest. They can be used to attack enemies, cut down sticks and logs, collect leaves, and perform other basic chopping tasks. Players start with the Tactical axe in their emergency pack when they land, but there are other, better axes on the island. The Fireman's axe is the most powerful but takes the most effort to find.
The map is said to be 4X as large as The Forest, and with a huge mountain, multiple cave systems, underground bunkers, and sandy beaches, there is a lot of ground to cover to find all the key items. Getting the Fireman's axes takes time and dedication, and players must make a few stops before they can get it. Here's everything they need to know about finding the Fireman's axe.
How to Get the Fireman's Axe
One difficult thing about the Sons of the Forest is certain items cannot be found until players find specific tools. For example, to get the Fireman's axe, players need three things:
- Rebreather - used for underwater diving. The rebreather is in a cave on the island's north shore, west of the mountain.
- Rope Gun - used for ziplines. The rope gun is found in a cave south of a circular lake on the island's west side, south of the beach.
- Shovel - used for digging. The shovel is inside a cave near the mountain on the island's west side.
All of these are found in separate cave systems on the island, as marked on the map above. The caves in the forest are particularly dangerous as they are full of mutant cannibals. Since fighting hand-to-hand with them is challenging in the small space, a projectile weapon like a bow or a pistol is a great option to take along. Players should also stock up on resources like water, food, and a tarp to build shelters for sleep and have multiple save points.
Having a torch, flares, or flashlight is also handy. Players should start with either the rebreather or the rope gun because they will need those to get the shovel. After getting the shovel, players can go find the Fireman's axe.
Fireman's Axe Location in Sons of the Forest
The Fireman's axe is found in one of the underground bunkers, Maintenance A. It is at one of the dig sites marked on the GPS with a pulsating green circle on the island's northwest side, south of the north beach. Players will know they've found it when they see equipment and two broken-down golf carts. A shovel symbol in the middle right in front of the golf cart will mark where the hatch door is buried.
Equip the shovel and right-click to start digging. Be careful because there are two cannibal camps on either side of the dig site, and the digging animation prevents players from looking around. Once the hatch door is clear of dirt, open it and go down the ladder. This leads to a small hallway with a door on the right and a storage room at the end. Go past the room to the storage area, where a couple of baby mutants will appear. After getting rid of the mutants, players can search the room, and the Fireman's axe is on the back wall inside a glass case.
The other room has a save point if players want to ensure they don't lose their progress. There are also quite a few resources and the Maintenance Key Card. To equip the Fireman's axe, click "I" to pull up the inventory. It is the heaviest hitter but also swings the slowest and takes up the most stamina. It is good for one-shotting certain cannibals or cutting down trees much faster than the Tactical axe.
