There doesn't seem to be any signs of slowing down for Sonic the Hedgehog, literally and figuratively. To celebrate thirty years of earth-shattering speeds, it was recently unveiled that the blue blur would be getting his own competitive card game. Now it looks as though an official release date for them has been announced.

According to one source, the Sonic the Hedgehog card game will be hitting stores this September, though an exact day has not yet been revealed. Entitled Sonic the Card Game it will feature all the classic Sonic characters, including Amy, Shadow, and Blaze. The object of the game is for players to "race" through levels, collecting rings and avoiding enemies, with the winner being declared by how many rings and lives they have at the end. It is said to be a "fast-paced" game suitable for players aged six and up.

It's being designed by Steamforged Games who have created a host of other tabletop adaptations of video games, including Pac-Man, Monster Hunter, and Dark Souls which also has its own board game. With that, it seems Steamford is certainly no stranger when it comes to bringing beloved video game franchises into card or board game format.

This also isn't the only thing being released that celebrates three decades of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. There's also going to be an 80-page comic book being published by IDW Publishing. It seems as though fans who grew up playing the Sonic games will be spoiled for choice in the coming months.

The Sonic the Hedgehog board game is due for release in September.
