The Sonic the Hedgehog Movie was a hit with fans and it performed well in the box office. Despite this success, early concepts for Sonic concerned fans, and many felt that the film would not represent the character properly. The film went through design changes and many were satisfied with the final product, however, early visualizations for Sonic maybe even scarier than the concepts fans originally saw. The pre-visualization video of Sonic is a sight to behold and may haunt some fans.

The commercial success of Sonic the Hedgehog surprised many because of the rarity of video game-based films being accepted by fan bases. However, the pre-visualization video put together by the team behind the film shows that the story and set pieces for the film had been planned well in advance. With that in mind, changing the appearance of Sonic would not have been too much trouble as the figure still interacts with the scenes in the same way.

The video shows several key scenes from the film including a car chase, as well as Sonic and his friends Thomas and Maddie on top of a building. The film was designed carefully but even in this video, Sonic does not look the way they should. The character looks like a block filled version of previous design errors and still has legs that are too long and a face that is not pleasant to look at. It seems that the ill-fated design for Sonic in the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie had been approved for some time, although it is impressive that no one stepped in to correct the appearance of the beloved character earlier.

The difference between this iteration of Sonic and the final product is incredible and many will hope that Sonic maintains his appearance for the highly anticipated Sonic 2. It will be interesting to see whether the sequel notes the issues the previous title has in achieving the appearance of the character. The meta-humor and references that were in the first film certainly leave the opportunity to poke fun at previous missteps like this one in the sequel.

The Sonic film came along way from its original conception and many have been grateful that they received a visually satisfying product. Not only did the Sonic the Hedgehog deliver an entertaining experience but it also breathed new life into the character. With that in mind, many will be pleased that the character isn't an eyesore anymore.

Sonic the Hedgehog is available now on digital and Blu-ray.
