Players of Sonic Superstars can track down a number of bonus stages by meeting the correct criteria while navigating the game's main stages. Completing these stages allows players to gather extra medals for use in the shop, making them well worth the trouble of tracking down.

Sonic Superstars is a side-scrolling platformer that supports up to four players in local co-op multiplayer. There are four playable characters available from the start of the game: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. Players are also able to customize a unique robot avatar for online play, and there is one extra character available to unlock later on in the game.

How to Access a Bonus Stage

Accessing a Bonus Stage in Sonic Superstars is thankfully rather straightforward, only requiring players to gather a large number of rings and then pass a Star Post. When the player passes a Star Post while carrying enough rings, a portal will appear above the post that can be used to enter the Bonus Stage. While the exact number of rings required has not yet been documented, it is somewhere in the 100-150 range.

How the Bonus Stages Work

Sonic Superstars Bonus Stage

After entering a Bonus Stage, the player character will be locked in a spin jump position inside a rotating maze of bouncers and switches. The goal here is to collect the medal somewhere inside the rotating level, at which point players will be transported to a new maze, and the sequence will repeat. Players must complete three of these mazes to earn the maximum medal reward from a bonus stage.

Players are able to move their character using the left stick and jump by hitting the jump button. Since the level is constantly rotating, players will need to bounce their character around carefully and take advantage of the stage's rotation to access different parts of the maze. Bouncers throughout the maze will cause the character to bounce off of them and can be used to gain height and speed when used well.

Special buttons found throughout the stage can be used to swap the direction the maze is rotating, allowing players to manipulate the maze to their advantage. Other buttons labeled "Up" and "Down" allow players to increase or decrease the speed the maze is spinning.

Completing bonus stages is a great way to earn medals for use in the shop, where players can purchase parts for their custom avatar.

Sonic Superstars is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
