Sega’s latest adventure featuring the blue blur, Sonic Superstars, is currently on offer as part of Amazon’s Black Friday weekend event. In October, Sonic Superstars went head-to-head against Super Mario Wonder with both games releasing within days of each other. The event reignited one of gaming’s greatest rivalries, which saw Nintendo and Sega battle it out in the 90s for console dominance.

Releasing across all major platforms, Sonic Superstars takes on the ‘classic’ 2D viewpoint and allows up to four players to take on the roles of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose as they travel to the Northstar Islands to stop Dr Eggman’s latest plan to take over the world. Releasing just days before Super Mario Wonder was a risky move that resulted in Sega’s mascot being overshadowed by the Italian plumber, but now, players who waited to pick up Sonic Superstars have a chance to snag the game for a lower price.

To encourage more players to pick up the blue hedgehog’s latest adventure, Sonic Superstars is part of Amazon’s Black Friday weekend promotion with the current price being listed from $34.99 across the PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox consoles. This is a substantial 33% discount, although at the time of writing the stock is currently running low across all platforms. As always with Amazon’s Black Friday deals, the promotion is expected to end on November 27, or if the game sells out.

Although Mario ultimately came out on top sales-wise, fans and critics still enjoyed Sonic Superstars citing the 4-player platformer’s homage to the bygone of Sonic’s Sega Genesis-era of games. Sonic Superstars wasn’t purely a throwback to the classic ‘gotta go fast’ style of games as each character had their own abilities which could be utilized through each stage, such as Amy Rose’s double jump or Knuckle’s ability to glide.

Despite the challenges faced by Sonic and his team of heroes, Sega is still keen to support the game going forward. Some keen-eyed fans noticed a DLC pack for Sonic Superstars appeared on the Steam page, only to be pulled quickly. Before the content was removed, gamers managed to screenshot the details to show that skins based on the IDW comic book series will soon be coming to the game.

Sonic Superstars may have been overshadowed by Super Mario Wonder when they both released during the same week. Still, gamers who are playing the game are seemingly enjoying what the newest entry has to offer. Dedicated fans have even unearthed a 32-year-old Easter Egg in Sonic Superstars which the developers cleverly hid, and with Black Friday in full effect, it is the perfect time for gamers wanting to pick up Sonic’s latest adventure to take the plunge.
