Sega and Sonic Team have released a new trailer for Sonic Frontiers that teases what direction the story will take in The Final Horizon DLC update. Sonic Frontiers' post-launch content has been released throughout 2023, with the second update launching this past Summer for the blue mascot's 32nd anniversary. The one DLC update that is highly anticipated by fans however is the last one, where it promises not only a new story, but also new playable characters for Sonic Frontiers, which include Amy, Tails, and Knuckles.

Earlier this past August, fans were given the release date for Sonic Frontiers' final update, which was accompanied by a CGI animated trailer that featured Sonic, his friends, and even Dr. Eggman and Sage facing off against a massive Titan boss. This appears to be an upgraded form of Supreme, with several arms sprouting from its back. The release date trailer also teases a brand-new Super Sonic transformation, where it seems to use the Cyber Corruption alongside the golden form. Sega's latest trailers and posts detail what fans should expect in this third update.

The "Into the Horizon" trailer starts with Sage detailing the looming threat of The End, who was the original True Final Boss of Sonic Frontiers. It then cuts to show Amy, Knuckles, and Tails, who are all going to be playable in a mainline Sonic game for the first time since Sonic '06. Knuckles mentions how Sonic already tackled four of islands, with Tails' noting that his interactions in cyberspace are getting him getting more corrupted, similar to Sonic during the base game.

A post on the game's official Steam page breaks things down further, where it explains that this DLC takes place before Ouranos Island, which means before the game's final fight with Supreme. It states that Sonic has enlisted the help of Sage and Eggman in order to turn the Cyber Corruption into a new power source. Sonic's friends are tasked with finding the Chaos Emeralds in his stead, with some believing that this will lead to a different final boss. Many fans wanted to see Sonic Frontiers' underwhelming final boss fight fixed, and this revision in the story seems like it will not only change boss fights, but also possibly its ending.

Sega also posted a teaser image for Sonic Frontiers' Final Horizon update, where it features the new Supreme Titan, Sage, Eggman, and all four playable characters front-and-center. This image even teases how the three new characters will play, where Knuckles uses his brawling techniques, Amy has her trademark hammer, and Tails will utilize his machines to combat enemies. A lot of fans expressed their excitement, with many happy to be promised a new fight or the chance to play as their favorite characters again.

Sonic Frontiers is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
