The director of Sonic Frontiers confirms that the next DLC update will be featuring the return of a fan-favorite move from the blue blur's arsenal. The first major update to the game, the Sights, Sounds, and Speed DLC for Sonic Frontiers, was released earlier near the end of March, which added a number of features to the game. This included a Battle Rush, Cyberspace Level Challenge, and even a Juke Box with players being tasked to find multiple songs around the game's expansive islands. This update however included something that was likely meant to be a surprise, as dataminers have discovered.More specifically, combing through the game's update files found that there were in-game tips that implied Sonic Frontiers would re-introduce a fan-favorite move, the Spin Dash. The base game doesn't have the move itself, with the Drop Dash technique being the closest thing that resembles the original move. With these files being discovered, one fan decided to see if there was any legitimacy behind it, posing the question to Sonic Frontiers' director, Morio Kishimoto.RELATED: Sonic Frontiers Modders Working on Big Change to Photo ModeThis inquiry was posted by Twitter user ColdSeych, who saw that Sonic Frontiers had files that referenced Sonic's Spin Dash, asking if it would be included in a future update. Kishimoto responded in shock, surprised to see that fans had found out about this planned feature. He confirmed that it was planned to be included in the game's first update, but noted that he and the team felt that it wouldn't have met the expectations of fans if it was shipped. As a result, the move is being reworked and is planned to be included in the second update.

Following the confirmation of the Spin Dash, Kishimoto hopes fans can expect great things with this move's implementation. A follow-up tweet from ColdSeych thanked the director for confirming the move's existence, as well as appreciating Kishimoto and his team for their hard work. The director then noted the challenges they had developing the open-zone but wanted to take in the opinions of the fans to help improve Sonic Frontiers. He stated that the number of things they found while working in the open-zone is going to expand the fun that it will offer, asking fans to look forward to the next update.

This isn't the only thing that the first update leaked after its release. Dataminers also found files that referred to Sonic Frontiers' playable characters for Wave 3, which include parameters for Amy, Knuckles, and Tails. Regardless, fans should keep an eye out for the official announcement of how the Spin Dash and playable characters will work in the coming months.

Sonic Frontiers is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
