Sonic Frontiers may be mostly an open-world game, but there are tons of challenging puzzles with loads of big rewards. This means players will have to wander from one end of the Starfall Islands as Sonic, looking for and solving every possible puzzle; this will ensure that Sonic has plenty of rings, collectibles, Chaos Emeralds, and skill gems to get through even the toughest of fights. On the second island, called Ares Island, is where Sonic will attempt to help Knuckles, and this island is home to one difficult puzzle. This is puzzle number M-049.

M-049 is located on the second island of Sonic Frontiers. In this sandy desert area, players will find this puzzle near the Giant Satellite Dish in the northern part of this island's map. It will be located in the valley below the dish.

Look for the white, diamond-shaped sign that indicates a puzzle location and the teal-colored hourglass right next to it.

How to Solve Sonic Frontiers' M-049

First, trigger the puzzle by interacting with the hourglass. This will turn over and give the player a limited amount of time; on Normal mode, Sonic will get 60 seconds to complete it. Once the hourglass is flipped, several blue square portals will appear in front of sonic, leading up to a pile of rubble. Once Sonic has sped through the portals on the ground, he will need to use his Cyloop powers on the rubble pile, just like he needed to in the M-024 puzzle in Sonic Frontiers. The button for Cylooping is:

  • Triangle on PS5.
  • Y on Xbox.
  • Right mouse click on PC.
  • X on Switch.

Draw a circle on the ground around the pile of rubble until Sonic's first skill in Frontiers, called Cyloop, turns from blue to pink. Then release the Cyloop button and the pile of rubble will turn into a tower.

Wall run up the tower using the bumper buttons, then head to the top of the cliff. Look for the next row of blue squares to run through. The final square is in that line of portals; the ending portal will have a slightly fuzzier texture than the rest of the squares do. Players should have plenty of time to complete this puzzle once they figure it out, as the whole area that needs to be covered is pretty small, and Sonic in Sonic Frontiers has gotta go fast.

Sonic Frontiers is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
