Sonic Frontiers released earlier this month and has been enjoyed by many Sonic the Hedgehog fans. There are a lot of things for players to do as they explore the islands that the game takes place on. While many gamers will surely enjoy collecting rings, fighting enemies, and seeing how quickly they can progress through Cyber Space levels, they may want to take a break from the thrill and do something more calming, such as fishing.

Sonic Frontiers has a great mini game in which players can fish with Big the Cat, one of Sonic's friends. Fishing can help players progress through their adventure in multiple ways and is a nice break from the rest of the tasks that the game offers.

How The Fishing Minigame Is A Nice Change Of Pace

As gamers should expect, a lot of things in a Sonic the Hedgehog game are meant to be done quickly. After all, Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the fastest video game characters ever made. Whether it be a level or a boss, Sonic Frontiers tries to motivate players to do things as fast as they can. However, going fast may not be something that all Sonic Frontiers players want to do. When exploring each of the islands in the game, players can find an area that gives them access to the fishing mini game, which allows them to take things slow.

The fishing mini game is very simple. Big the Cat allows players to fish in exchange for purple coins, which can be found all around each of the islands in Sonic Frontiers. The first thing that players must do is choose where to place their rod in the pond that the fish are swimming in. Afterwards, they will see a red circle that surrounds a smaller white circle. As the white circles grows larger, it eventually becomes the same size as the red one, signaling for players to reel the fish in.

How The Fishing Game Helps Players Progress In The Game

Despite being such a simple mini game, fishing is actually very helpful in Sonic Frontiers. It allows players to get tokens that they can spend on items that can either help them progress in the story, make them more powerful, or learn more about the lore of the game. Each fish comes with either one or more tokens. There are also objects in the pond that aren't fish, such as red springs, tin cans, and treasure chests. Treasure chests are the most valuable objects in the pond.

Some of the items that players can spend tokens on are Portal Gears, Memory Tokens, and Chaos Emerald Vault Keys. All three of these items are needed in order to progress in the game, so it would be most helpful for players to spend their tokens on them. Portal Gears allow gamers to unlock the Cyber Space levels in the game, Memory Tokens let them interact with other characters, and Chaos Emerald Vault Keys are needed to obtain some of the Chaos Emeralds.

Players can also obtain Red Seeds of Power and Blue Seeds of Defense, which make Sonic stronger, Rings, which allow Sonic to survive when getting attacked by enemies, and more. The items that Sonic Frontiers fans can obtain from fishing are very helpful and can save players some time and energy if they don't feel like earning them by using other methods. The fishing mini game is a wonderful addition to Sonic Frontiers that can keep players coming back for more, especially when they want to take a break from what the rest of the game has to offer, and it will hopefully be included in future Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Sonic Frontiers is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
