Sonic Frontiers is slated to get three sizable free updates throughout 2023, and the first is already available for all players. In the Sights, Sounds, and Speed update, not only are players given some important quality of life adjustments and new Easter-themed Koco, but two new modes known as Battle Rush and Cyber Space Challenge made their debut. Both modes could be unlocked easily after beating the main story in Sonic Frontiers.

Battle Rush is most definitely one of the most eye-catching things in this update. Once Sonic Frontiers was in players' hands, one of the game's most beloved aspects was the titan boss battles as Super Sonic. However, despite many agreeing that these battles were incredibly memorable, there wasn't a way to replay them once they were over. After many fans asked for a Boss Rush mode to be added in the game's DLC, Battle Rush gives fans their cake, but only if they work for it.

Sonic Frontiers' Battle Rush Raises the Stakes

Sonic Frontiers New Move

All fans wanted when it came to re-experiencing the fights against Giganto, Wyvern, Knight, and Supreme were ways to simply battle them over and over again as much as they wished. However, Sonic Frontiers fans got much more than that. Battle Rush not only pits players against the robots that only Super Sonic can defeat, but the Guardians and almost every other enemy found on the Starfall Islands as well. Battle Rush can be described as a gauntlet against every enemy the game has to offer, with Sonic Frontiers' Extreme Difficulty as the grand prize for a perfect run.

However, Battle Rush isn't an ordinary gauntlet. While Frontiers throws almost every foe the game has at players, it seems that Sonic Team knew fans wanted a tougher challenge, especially if they've cleared the base game already. Battle Rush not only puts players against almost every enemy it possibly could, but it also times players to defeat them all under a certain amount of time for the coveted S Rank of Sonic game fame. This means that players not only have to hit these enemies hard, but they naturally also have to hit them fast.

Even as Sonic Frontiers' Battle Rush pits players against a ton of different enemies with a time limit, it may seem as if this boss challenge can be easily bested with high stats and enough button mashing. However, it seems as if that was taken into consideration as well during development. Battle Rush isn't at all easy if players don't know how to use combos and don't have a strategy for each section as the times needed to S Rank are incredibly strict and short. Many fans have warned other players that the mode is a nightmare unless all of Sonic's stats are maxed out.

Battle Rush also doesn't just place Sonic somewhere on the islands and tell him to fight what's in front of him. Some segments require platforming and fast-paced thinking to get from one set of enemies to the other in order to save time to keep that S Rank all the way to the end. Even saving a few seconds with better, faster moves can fix a previous A Rank to an S, which makes the lengthy titan fights even more rewarding once fans get to them, as it's between them and the clock to finish up battles like Knight's within minutes.

Instead of giving fans a simple way to face the colossal enemies anytime they wished, they now have double the challenge as they need to make it through the entire gauntlet to get to the Super Sonic battle with plenty of rings and plenty of time. With two time limits to manage instead of one, it may be the most challenging and adrenaline-pumping Time Trial mode the Sonic franchise has ever had.

Sonic Frontiers is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
