Sonic Frontiers' Cyberspace stages may have left a bit to be desired regarding speed, but the new Sights, Sounds, and Speed update has remedied this by adding a toggleable Power Boost. Of course, this can only be achieved after beating the game and doing one of its toughest challenges, but the reward is worth the effort.

Power Boost is that movie-esque effect that happens whenever the hedgehog is at his maximum ring count or level 99 speed. It exponentially increases Sonic's speed, allowing him to cross massive amounts of land in just a few seconds, especially when combined with Infinite Boost. The latest Sonic Frontiers update allows players to use it in Cyberspace. A fair word of warning, though: this ability is only accessible after defeating the final boss on any difficulty and after completing the entire Cyberspace Challenge Mode with an S-rank.

The first step on the Power Boost journey is unlocking Cyberspace Challenge. This is done by beating Supreme and The End on any difficulty; it is not necessary to play or open every Cyberspace portal. After the game has been finished a single time, players can go back to the main title screen, select Cyberspace Challenge, and go through every stage, making sure to get an S-rank overall on the four-island challenge to unlock the ability.

This will prove tricky, but can be accomplished through several tips and tricks, and some speed-running tactics Sonic Frontiers players use to go as fast as possible. After the final challenge has been S-ranked, the player will receive the Power Boost in Cyberspace option in the settings, which can be toggled on or off. This ability is mainly for repeat playthroughs or for going through Cyberspace Challenge again to get better times with this new ability.

The ability itself works a bit differently from its counterpart used in the Open-zone. For starters, it does not require rings, even if Sonic is not at speed level 99. Unfortunately, it also is quite a bit slower in 2D than players may expect, and it mainly just serves as a way for Sonic Frontiers players to go faster when replaying the game or jumping back into their favorite Cyberspace levels. Nevertheless, it will usually help shave 10 seconds or more off of any Cyberspace time, especially the ones that take place primarily on the ground and don't require too much airtime to be completed.

The Power Boost in Cyberspace option will be unlocked by default on any new save files. This ability will come in handy for anyone looking to replay the game on the new Extreme Difficulty, lower their time in Cyberspace Challenge, or unlock all the portals in the main game proper. It can be toggled on or off at any time from the menu and will prove quite helpful for any player that unlocks it.

Sonic Frontiers is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
