Sonic Dream Team, the latest spin-off title in the ever-popular Sonic the Hedgehog series, is now available to play on Apple Arcade. Sega’s speedy platforming mascot has been on a roll in 2023, with plenty of games, tie-in media, and merchandise being released over the past year. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog kicked things off on the gaming end with a charming April Fool’s murder mystery, followed by the fast-paced 2D platforming of Sonic Origins Plus and Sonic Superstars. Even last year’s Sonic Frontiers received a wealth of new content in 2023, leading to the story-based The Final Horizon DLC that added new playable characters and a revised ending.
The Blue Blur isn’t slowing down either, as Sega and the UK-based Sonic mobile developer Sega HARDlight announced Sonic Dream Team as an Apple Arcade exclusive back in November. This 3D platformer sees Sonic and his friends transported to a colorful world of dreams to stop the nefarious Dr. Eggman from carrying out his plans of world domination. Six playable characters have been confirmed for Sonic Dream Team, and players have drawn comparisons to the Sonic Adventure titles of the early 2000s.
LEGO Sonic The Hedgehog Set for Knuckles And Rouge Revealed
A new Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO set is leaked online, giving fans a new look at the minifigure versions of Knuckles the Echidna and Rouge the Bat.
Fans no longer have to wait to dive into Sonic Dream Team, as it is now available to download on Apple Arcade as of December 5. Sega celebrated the game’s launch with a new YouTube trailer and press release, both of which highlight Sonic Dream Team’s colorful platforming action, variety of playable characters, and diverse gameplay features. According to the official plot synopsis, Dr. Eggman has uncovered an ancient device called the Reverie that can make dreams a reality. Hence, Sonic and his friends must dive into the mad scientist’s mind and race across 12 new levels across four immersive dream worlds before it’s too late.
In addition to Sonic Dream Team's previously mentioned playable characters and their special abilities, such as Knuckle’s wall-climbing and Rouge’s bat-like gliding, the press release for Sonic Dream Team mentions four challenging boss battles that will test the player’s mastery of the game’s distinct three movement types. Sonic Dream Team also includes cross-platform compatibility, allowing players to enjoy the game across all Apple-supported devices like iPhones, iPads, Mac PCs, and Apple TV.
While the decision to make Sonic Dream Team exclusive to Apple Arcade has proven divisive among fans, the game itself seems to be a promising and colorful platforming adventure to cap off an exciting year of Sonic the Hedgehog gaming action. Sonic Dream Team is out now on Apple Arcade, alongside a host of other Sega-published titles like Sonic Racing, Sonic Dash+, Samba de Amigo: Party-To-Go, and Football Manager 2023 Touch.
