Sonic The Hedgehog: Most Iconic Themes From Every Mainline Game

Sonic the Hedgehog is renowned for having consistently good soundtracks. These songs represent the best from every entry in the long-running series.

While Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Team Chaotix have all gotten spinoff games over the years, there are many characters who have yet to appear outside a Sonic-headlined game. With character spinoff games being very successful for franchises like Mario, fans are sure to appreciate some of their favorite characters getting some time in the spotlight.

10 Chaos

Chaos 0 facing Sonic in the opening of Sonic Adventure

With his impossibly cool design, Chaos marked a complete shift away from what fans expected from Sonic characters. This, coupled with the shockingly serious connotations of his character, made him one of Sega’s most popular villains. Because fans adore him so much, a Chaos spinoff game is sure to do well.

Chaos is an ancient being, meaning his life spans the ancient history of the Sonic universe. A game starring him could both take place in a new setting and give fans a much-desired expansion of the series’ mythology.

9 Cream The Rabbit

An Adorable Character Fans Want More Of

Cream the Rabbit - Sonic The Hedgehog Zodiac

Cream The Rabbit is one of the youngest Sonic characters, and is as adorable as that implies. Despite her young age, Cream’s flying abilities and her pet Chao Cheese make her one of the more useful playable characters. Despite this, she’s sadly one of the most underutilized characters as well.

Why Sonic Dream Team Going All in On Cream the Rabbit is a Good Thing

Sonic the Hedgehog's Cream the Rabbit needs her time in the spotlight and Sonic Dream Team thankfully takes the opportunity to let her shine.

Because of her cute appearance and powerful abilities, many fans are eager for this lack of attention to change. A lot of the positive buzz for Sonic Dream Team was due to her inclusion. Cream has a lot of appeal that Sega would do well to take advantage of in a spinoff game.

8 Big The Cat

A Once-Hated Character Who Fills A Perfect Modern Niche

When Big The Cat first appeared, his slow speech and drastically different gameplay earned him a lot of hate. However, the memes that inevitably came with such hatred went full circle to the point that people began to like him unironically. His previously despised gameplay is now the perfect reason to bring him back.

Big is all about fishing, which is one of the most popular types of minigame in modern games. Many streamers of Sonic Frontiers devoted huge chunks of their streams to playing Big’s fishing minigame. A less expensive Big game devoted entirely to fishing is sure to do great with fans.

7 Sage

A Cool New Character Who Represents A Different Take On The Villians

Sonic Frontiers was popular among fans for many reasons, not least of which was its new character, Sage. Sage is an AI created by Doctor Eggman who he comes to see as his own daughter. Fans loved her for her complex character and for adding a level of humanity to Sonic’s usually cartoony villains.

Sage’s moral dilemmas and character growth brought a level of depth to the Sonic universe that fans really appreciated. This depth is something fans would love to see explored more in a spinoff game. With Sage being a very different type of character, she would necessitate a refreshing shift in gameplay as well.

6 Tangle The Lemur

A Beloved Comics Character Fans Would Love To See In A Game

Tangle The Lemur from the IDW comics

Tangle The Lemur first appeared as an original creation in the IDW Sonic comics, and she quickly became a fan-favorite. Her spunky personality, excellent design, and cool abilities endeared her to Sonic fans. While she has appeared in a few mobile games, many are hopeful she might appear in a mainline game.

Though she didn’t appear in the game itself, Tangle was mentioned by name in Sonic Frontiers. For a comics-exclusive character to be acknowledged in a video game was huge, and filled Tangle’s many fans with hope they would see her in a mainline game some day. Though a full spinoff might be too much to hope for, there is certainly enough fan interest.

5 Blaze The Cat

A Character Whose Incredible Powers Have Gone Underutilized

Blaze The Cat is a warrior princess from another dimension whose cool design and personality have earned her plenty of fans. She also has incredible pyrokinetic abilities, which are largely unheard of in Sonic games. Unfortunately, those abilities haven’t been used to their full potential.

Video game characters often employ fantastical abilities in their repertoire. These individuals spew fire unlike any other.

In her debut in Sonic Rush, Blaze played very similarly to Sonic, despite her vastly different power set. A spinoff game would give Sega the opportunity to explore gameplay that better suits Blaze’s abilities. With Blaze making regular appearances in Sonic games, the potential for a spinoff is there.

4 Dr. Eggman

Sonic’s Greatest Nemesis Deserves His Own Game

Though he has been playable before, Dr. Eggman has yet to star in his own game. Even the game Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine had him as an antagonist rather than the playable character. This is a shame, as an Eggman game would be outstanding.

As a mad inventor who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty, Dr. Eggman opens the door to many styles of gameplay. No matter what kind of gameplay an Eggman game uses, the character is so popular that a spinoff would generate a ton of interest through sheer morbid curiosity alone.

3 Rouge The Bat

A Beloved Character With A Unique Perspective

Rouge the Bat - Sonic The Hedgehog Zodiac

Rouge The Bat is one of Sonic’s most popular female characters. Her flirty and tenacious personality coupled with her eye-catching design were a welcome breath of fresh air to the series. But some fans feel that she’s not being utilized as much as she should be.

Rouge occupies a unique role in the Sonic world by being both a government agent and a jewel thief. That alone would make her ripe for an exciting spinoff, even if she wasn’t a popular established character. A game that lives up to Rouge’s potential is sure to stand out from the usual Sonic fare.

2 E-123 Omega

An Awesome Character Who Demands A Unique Gameplay Experience

E-123 Omega endeared himself to fans with his badass design and his immense power. The robot’s massive arms conceal a huge arsenal of weapons, leaving little wonder why he considers himself Eggman’s masterpiece. Unfortunately, the potential of these weapons is always limited by the gameplay style of whichever game he appears in.

When it comes to Sonic’s best friends, Amy Rose is right up there with Tails and Knuckles. She’s been playable in nearly as many games as they have, especially in modern times. So it’s surprising that she’s the only one of the three who hasn’t received a spinoff.

Her cute, appealing design and giant hammer combine to make Amy a unique character who more than deserves a unique gameplay style to match. Her popularity among Sonic fans is more than enough to attract eyes to her game, and she is more than up to the task of carrying her own solo adventure.
