After completing the job change mission and becoming The Monarch Of Shadows, players in Solo Leveling: Arise will get access to the Army of Shadows. This will give Sung Jinwoo and other hunters the ability to summon Shadows in combat to briefly attack or distract enemies.

Shades are powerful allies that can be further upgraded through promotions or by leveling up the army as a whole. As individual shadows get stronger or more are added, the amount of Shades needed to summon them will also increase. Shades are a simple resource to farm but will still need to be properly managed to make sure players are never left without them when in need.

How To Get Shades In Solo Leveling: Arise

Players get Shades by completing missions while playing as Sung Jinwoo. The amount of Shades earned will vary and is determined by the difficulty of the mission and the player's overall performance. While playing as Sung, players can expect to earn hundreds or thousands of Shades after a single mission. Because the return amount is so high, players will often not need to worry about their Shade count while playing as Sung. The number of Shades a player currently has and their maximum can be checked anytime in the bottom right of the Army of Shadows menu. Some game modes that are easily farmed to restore Shades are:

  • Gates
  • New story missions
  • Instance Dungeons
  • Battlefield of Trials
  • Battlefield of Time

How Do Shades Work In Solo Leveling: Arise

The Player Activating Auto Use Of Shadows

Shades are used anytime Shadows are summoned in combat. This does mean players can run out of Shades in a game depending on how many times they try to summon their shadows and how many they started with. As shadows are promoted or more are summoned, the Shade cost will increase and will require players to think more carefully before summoning their army.

Players should be most concerned about their Shade count when doing Hunter-specific missions as they won't earn any Shades upon completion. When doing so it's important to switch back and forth between games as Sung and your other Hunters to restore your Shades as they are used. For those playing on Auto, it's possible to disable the summoning of Shadows to save Shades. Press the main menu and select the gear icon in the bottom right. Next, go to Controls in the middle of the left list and scroll to the very bottom. Setting Prevent Shadow Auto-Use During Auto-Battle of On will keep the AI from summoning any Shadows and using Shades.
