Solar Opposites is back and bigger than ever, promising all sorts of crazy hijinks and wacky adventures for the kooky alien family at the center of the show, and there’s a trailer that promises it all.

Solar Opposites, Hulu's comical sci-fi raunch-fest from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, has quietly chugged away in the shadow of that bigger cultural giant, establishing itself as an always-on-point alternative with the same wry sense of irreverence, but lacking the plot baggage of its big brother.

With what could’ve been a riff on the cultural juggernaut that is Rick and Morty, Roiland instead made a new series that was its own thing. The new trailer opens with the Solar Opposites' family being their typical deviant selves, congratulating each other on their renewal and offering each other a sexual favor that accompanies either a choice of pancakes or crepes for their breakfast. From there things get wild. The series lead, Korvo (Roiland), announces that since he’s no longer focusing on the mission or fixing the family’s ship (the series opens with an explanation that the aliens are a couple and their clones—along with a slug-like baby called the pupa— are sent to populate new worlds after their old one got destroyed), he’s free to engage in all sorts of sci-fi wackiness.

Cut to scenes of him leading an underground resistance, his young clone, Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone), skateboarding in a furry pimp coat, the whole family at hot springs, and Terry (Thomas Middleditch), Korvo’s life partner, blasting people with a gun that turns them into outdoor furniture. Korvo and Terry then launch an obnoxious neighbor into space, the pupa rides off in a robot suit, and Jesse (Mary Mack), Terry’s younger clone, talks about getting to make out with her favorite boy band, the inappropriately named BTK. From there dinosaurs attack, the family goes to Hulu-land, Yumyulak and Jesse go on a trip inside the pupa (who operates inside like a Tardis), and Korvo turns himself into a Thomas the Tank Engine-style train monster.

The Solar Opposites trailer then winds down with the family doing a TikTok dance in what appears to be a The Princess Bride parody. Plus, everyone is seen fighting as Korvo shoots a gargoyle gun that turns them into gargoyles, with stray blasts hitting their neighbors.

Solar Opposites season 3 starts July 13th, 2022, on Hulu.
