Sniper Elite 5 is the newest entry in the Sniper Elite video game series that brings its famous sniping gameplay experience to players again. The game is the direct sequel to Sniper Elite 4 with Rebellion Developments working on it, and it is scheduled to release in 2022.

Sniper Elite 5 continues the story of expert marksman Lt. Karl Fairburne as the game returns to World War 2. The game will be set in 1944, where Fairburne is part of a covert operation to thwart a secret Nazi project called Operation Kraken that threatens to end the war before D-Day occurs. The game will have players stop this secret plot by locating high-ranking Nazi officers and eliminating them.

Recently, a new trailer for Sniper Elite 5 was released by Rebellion that shows off a cinematic depiction of the game. The trailer is narrated while showing Lt. Karl Fairburne making his way through enemy territory to reach his target. The trailer ends on a suspenseful note as Fairburne finds his target, but before he can take his shot, he's caught in an enemy sniper's sights and the trailer comes to a dramatic close.

The trailer ends on the game's release window and launch platforms including Xbox Game Pass. While the trailer's ending doesn't reveal much about the release date, the enemy's sniper showcased a glimpse of a new game mode called Invasion Mode, where a player can drop into another player's campaign as an Axis Sniper to eliminate the player. However, the player can call in another Allied Sniper to help take out the Axis Sniper.

Players will have access to unique skills as an Axis Sniper and an Allied Sniper in Invasion Mode. The Axis Sniper will have several skills in the game mode such as using AI Axis soldiers to help locate the Allied Sniper. They can also tag Axis soldiers to enable "Eagle Eye," which will display their last location on the map. Axis Snipers can also instruct any nearby Axis soldiers to "stay sharp" to increase their awareness in the area.

The Allied Sniper can access invasion phones that are scattered throughout the maps, which can be used to discover their enemy's last known location. However, the phones can be booby-trapped, so any player who overuses them will raise suspicion and potentially reveal their location. Axis Snipers will be rewarded with new weapons, items, and unlockable new skins, while Allied Snipers will earn new weapons and character skins. Just as the trailer showed, players will need to stop the Nazi secret plot as Lt. Karl Fairburne, while keeping an eye out for enemy snipers in Sniper Elite 5.

Sniper Elite 5 is scheduled to release in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
