Slime Rancher allows players to shape the game world as they see fit. They can build new structures, buy gear, collect slimes, and breed chickens. Breeding chickens isn't overly complicated in Slime Rancher as long as players know what to expect from the game. With a few ingredients, a little dedication, and some focus, players can be hatching chickens in spades.

In order to breed chickens in Slime Rancher, players will first need to find a Roostro. Roostros can be found in the open world and can also occasionally spawn from chickadoos. Navigating the world of Slime Rancher is all players need to do in order to find a Roostro, and then it's a matter of leading them back to base. Once that is done, players are ready to start breeding chickens.

How to Breed Chickens

Breeding chickens in Slime Rancher happens naturally. Much like mobs and animals in Minecraft, Slime Rancher's creatures will organically reproduce. However, the process can take a long time even if players sequester Hen Hens and Roostros. In order to streamline the breeding process, players should get a Coop. A default Coop is 250 dollars and has a cap of 12 chicks that can be laid. Players should keep in mind that each Coop only requires one Roostro. Having multiple will not make Hen Hens lay eggs any faster.

Coops give Roostros and Hen Hens a 100 percent chance of having chicks, which is very beneficial to players. Upgrades for Coops can also be purchased to increase laying time, max cap, or chicken health. These additions can cost anywhere from 350 dollars to 650. Depending on player uses for chickadoos, though, an upgrade might be worth it. Indeed, with increased access to Slime Rancher due to Xbox Game Pass' library, now is a perfect time for players to jump in for free and start working toward their Slime Ranching goals.

It is important for players to remember, though, that Roostros aren't always easy to find, and they can sometimes spawn sparsely. Once one is found, players should do their best to keep them safe and secure. Hopefully, it will be even easier to breed chickens in Slime Rancher 2 when it releases, but for now players will have to stick with the current system. Fortunately, Slime Rancher puts players first and already includes gameplay that achieves the goals of allowing players to shape their own experiences and explore the epic game world.

Slime Rancher is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
