Slime Rancher 2 is a fun monster-collecting and exploration game with laid-back gameplay and a relaxing atmosphere. There are classic slimes from the first game and some new slimes native to Rainbow Island that ranchers can collect and raise back at the Conservatory.

A particularly elusive slime is the Puddle slime. The Puddle slime is not new to fans of the Slime Rancher series, and it is still hard to farm in Slime Rancher 2. Puddle slimes are made entirely of water and can only thrive in specific environments, so finding them in the wild takes some diligence.

How To Find Puddle Slimes

Rainbow Island is divided into three areas: Rainbow Fields, Ember Valley, and Starlight Strand. Rainbow Fields is where the Conservatory is located, so it is like a home base for Beatrix LaBeau. However, Ember Valley and Starlight Strand are not available to players immediately, and they will have to unlock portals to visit them. Each area has endemic slimes and resources, including the Puddle slime, so doing this is beneficial in many ways.

Ember Valley

Players can unlock Ember Valley by finding the Pink Gordo slime and making it explode. Gordo slimes are created by slimes forming together into one giant unmoving slime. They usually sit on top of something helpful to players, so getting rid of them becomes necessary.

The Pink Gordo is on the northwest side of Rainbow Fields. To make the Gordo slime explode, feed the slime its preferred diet—which, in the case of the Pink slime, is anything—until it gets full. Once full, it will blow up into regular size slimes and reveal a geyser. Ranchers can step onto the geyser to be led to the activation switch for Ember Valley.

Puddle slimes are found on the northwest side of the Ember Valley, gathered in a small pond near the Crystal Gordo slime. Equipping the Jetpack will make getting to them more accessible and faster.

Starlight Strand

Starlight Strand's portal becomes available after dealing with the Cotton Gordo, a new slime species. Cotton slimes eat Veggies, so Carrots and Water Lettuce are the go-to foods. The rabbit-like giant is on the south side of Rainbow Fields, west of the Refinery Link. Again, feed the Gordo about 30+ vegetables, and it will pop. It sits in front of a cave entrance with the Starlight Strand portal activation switch inside.

Starlight Strand is more coastal, so Puddle slimes have more opportunities to survive there. In addition, they are in multiple ponds on the island near the Flutter and Angler slimes.

Puddle slimes cannot live in the standard corrals like other slime species. So, if ranchers want to collect their plorts regularly, they must ensure they have the correct enclosure. Slime enclosures cost Newbucks to build, and there are limited plots around the Conservatory.

Usually, ranchers can build a corral, which does a decent job of keeping their slimes in place, but Puddle slimes can only live in Ponds. Ponds cost 450 Newbucks, which can be quickly earned by selling plorts at the Plort Market. Puddle slimes don't require food but can only live if they have a constant water supply.

Slime Rancher 2 is available in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
