Where To Find Gadget Variants

Gadget variants, unlike some of Slime Rancher 2's more obscure secrets, are sold at the Pronto Mart Kiosk, found on the other side of the Conservatory's entrance from the Comm Station. Once in the Pronto Mart Kiosk, select Polestar Provisions. This will bring up a menu of Blueprints and Variants for Gadgets. You can sort for only variants by selecting the painter's palette button at the top of the screen.

How To Craft Gadget Variants

The current crafting system can make it confusing for some players to craft variants of base gadgets. Follow these steps to craft an unlocked variant of a gadget:

1. Players will need to navigate to the base item's entry in the Fabricator.
2. Then, hit the Variants button (X on the PC) to bring up a list of Variants.
3. If you've unlocked the variant you'd like to craft, you will be able to select it.
4. This then takes you back to the Gadget entry, and you can hit "Craft."

How To Place Gadgets

Once you have unlocked and crafted a gadget variant, you will be able to use the gadget placement mode. This mode looks different from the version found in the original Slime Rancher, with the sequel giving ranchers more freedom in where their items are placed.

1. First, enter Slime Tech Mode (the T key on PC).
2. Then, open your inventory (the G key on PC).
3. Drag the desired item from your inventory to the hotbar at the bottom of the screen.
4. Exit your inventory and select the item on your Hotbar (using the mouse scroll wheel on PC). This will allow you to freely place the item.

Thankfully, if you later change your mind about the placement of an item, you can remove a gadget by hovering over it while in Slime Tech Mode. This will give you the option to either pick it up (allowing you to place it somewhere else) or return it to your inventory.
