A player online has shown off a bizarre glitch that puts all of Skyrim underwater. The underwater portions of Skyrim are some of the least-detailed areas in the game, but this odd bug certainly adds some much-needed depth to them.

As a Bethesda game, glitches are part and parcel of the Skyrim experience. Over the years, players have discovered plenty of strange bugs. Some are game-breaking, and some are just hilarious. One Skyrim player discovered a funny glitch that gets the player’s head stuck in a door, putting the Dragonborn in a rather perilous position. At this point, gamers know to expect glitches in Bethesda games, and for many, they only add to their undeniable charm. While the wait for a sequel continues, it's interesting that players are still finding new bugs in a game that is already over eleven years old.

This particular glitch was posted by Redditor IMightBeAWeebLol, who shared the footage of Whiterun completely submerged underwater. This Skyrim glitch isn’t helpful at all, and severely restricts the player's immediate vision, evoking the vibes of a horror game. Some of the comments reflected this, with one describing it as “Skyrim Hill.” Others in the comments confirmed that it was the underwater glitch, even if the NPC in front of them appears to be walking as if nothing is happening. It's unclear if the glitch is entirely visual, or if the player would actually begin to die if they didn't manage to fix the issue fast.

Interestingly, similar bugs to this have popped up in the past. Another Skyrim bug makes the game look just like Silent Hill, although that bug appears to be a genuine issue with the fog in the game as opposed to underwater. It's unknown what exactly caused this bug to happen in-game, and at this point, it's unlikely Bethesda will ever bother to patch it out, so it will just have to remain one of Skyrim's great mysteries.

With Bethesda remaining coy on an Elder Scrolls 6 release date, gamers will have to make do with the land of Skyrim for the time being. Despite its abundance of hilarious bugs, it remains one of the most detailed open worlds ever created, and is still good value in 2023. For gamers who have completed the game many times, the modding community on PC remains incredibly active, with plenty of mods out there even adding new lands for gamers to explore and conquer.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
