The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim fans are all making the same joke on social media following a Bethesda announcement earlier today. Bethesda had confirmed that DOOM Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Online will PS5 and Xbox Series X launch titles, also leaving the door open for other next-gen ports of its games.

After Bethesda confirmed that it will be bringing two games to next-generation consoles, Skyrim fans quickly began to voice their surprise that the company hasn't confirmed the fantasy RPG for PS5 and Xbox Series X. A tweet from Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad joked "what about Skyrim," with popular Twitter user Nibellion responding that the rule of Skyrim Creative Director Todd Howard is that "doesn't matter which device in your room you're looking at - be assured that Skyrim is playable on it in some form."

Others joked that the lack of Skyrim in the post somehow supports the idea of a next-gen port and that Bethesda will release the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X as "Skyrim: The Super Ultra Mega For Real This Time Edition". When another fan joked that "Skyrim Has Entered the Chat," Nibellion noted that the game "hasn't left the chat for like a decade now and new users keep asking if they are a bot." Given that there is a hugely popular Skyrim modding scene that keeps new and old fans enjoying the game, Nibellion probably isn't wrong there.

While the Skyrim on everything meme is just a bit of fun, Bethesda does have some form for releasing the game on so many platforms. After launching the game on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2011, Bethesda then released it again on PS4 and Xbox One in 2016, before giving it a third outing on Nintendo Switch in 2017. The company said it thinks that Skyrim on Nintendo Switch helped to sell Switch consoles, suggesting it's been very popular, so it wouldn't be surprising to see it on a third console generation.

Skyrim on PS5 and Xbox Series X would also give fans something to play while they wait for The Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda has said that Starfield will be released before The Elder Scrolls 6 but as Starfield news isn't coming until 2021, fans could be waiting a long time for a new game in the series.

Nothing has been confirmed about Bethesda's other next-gen releases. However, as the company said that any other games it releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X will get a free upgrade from the PS4 and Xbox One version, it may have thought about it.

Skyrim is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
