A Skyrim mod has been released that totally overhauls the game's werewolf gameplay. The mod is the perfect opportunity for Skyrim players to give one of the game's lesser-used features another try.

At this point, there is no element of Skyrim that hasn't been overhauled by the modding community. Ever since Skyrim's release, modders have continued to bring new content to the game with ambition that rivals even Bethesda. Some mods are small quality-of-life fixes, while some are whole new worlds for players to explore. Perhaps the most prominent is the Skyrim expansion mod Skyblivion, a remake of Oblivion that has been in development for some time. While many of these larger mods could take years to release, they'll remain another reason to pick Skyrim back up for years to come.

The mod, titled "Moonlight Tales Mini" by Nexus Mods user spwned, changes almost every element of Skyrim's werewolf gameplay, which was criticized upon release for being bare-bones. The author claims that their additions include lunar transformations, a new werewolf model and skin system, werebear skins, and Sanies Lupinus werewolf disease as a returning feature from Morrowind, as well as other small changes. As far as Skyrim mods go, "Moonlight Tales Mini" is extremely lore-friendly and fits seamlessly with the base game. While most Skyrim mods take a similar approach, it hasn't stopped some modders from embracing the weird and wonderful for inspiration. One mod author even added an undead pizzeria to Skyrim.

One of the key selling points of the mod is its compatibility with other werewolf mods. There are other mods that change werewolf gameplay for Skyrim, and if a player has conflicting mods installed it can break the game. This mod touches none of the vanilla files, and only adds its own, which ensures maximum compatibility with other mods. With the sheer volume of amazing Skyrim mods out there, it's a huge positive for any mod to claim maximum compatibility.

Despite there already being werewolf overhauls out there, it's still great that modders are continuing to try their own variations. Every mod author will have their own ideas about what werewolf gameplay should look like, and with the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6 due to ramp up development after Starfield's release, having the ideas out there to see what works best could be a huge benefit for Bethesda. After werewolf gameplay was panned in Skyrim, it's something the company could definitely look to modders for inspiration with the sequel.
