For many who play The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, stealth is key, and one mod adds that little extra something when it comes to breaking into a locked chest. Immersion in general is important to gamers, and Bethesda's 2011 epic is considered one of the most immersive open-world titles around. The opportunity to sneak around and break into private property is a style of playthrough that many fans opt for, which often means that skills in lock picking are a requirement, though not in this case.

It's true that some Skyrim players make a few mistakes when playing a stealthy character, such as not taking advantage of alchemy or not having a back-up plan should being sneaky fail. There are many opportunities to take on the role of a thief, such as joining the Thieves Guild or playing as a ruthless assassin. Anyone who goes down this route knows that there are treasures to be had inside locked chests or behind locked doors, and this mod gives an alternative way to open someone's coffers without necessarily needing a lockpick.

This Skyrim mod is simply called "Locked Chests Have Keys" and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Created by JaySerpa, who is no stranger to creating many interesting modifications for TES5, players now have the chance to get into a chest by simply looking for its intended key. This doesn't mean the locks can't be picked, but should anyone find themselves without the required tools or skills to do so, a locked chest should have a key somewhere in the vicinity. However, it should be said that not all chests will have a key, such as some of the major ones, but now there are hundreds that do thanks to this mod.

As mentioned above, JaySerpa is fairly well known for putting out some interesting ideas. For example, a recent Skyrim mod allows players to spy through keyholes. Again, this pertains to those who prefer a stealthy playthrough, giving them an opportunity to see what's inside someone's home before they decide whether or not to break in.

After more than a decade, it's good to see there are still people out there who are adding to Skyrim or just tweaking it for a better experience. With The Elder Scrolls 6 allegedly still in pre-production, it's likely to be a long time before the next installment in the series makes an appearance. In the meantime, people like JaySerpa will probably keep rolling out new mods to help keep TES5 alive in the gaming sphere.

Skyrim Special Edition is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
