The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition has arrived, bringing an upgraded version of Bethesda's legendary RPG to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. As well as all the official expansions, the Skyrim Anniversary Edition also includes many Creation Club Packs made by members of the community.
One of the most substantial of these is the Saints and Seducers Pack, which contains multiple quests, a new dungeon, new spells, and much more. Saints and Seducers is themed around the Shivering Isles, home of the Mad God Sheogorath. In keeping with this, one of the items that players can discover is the new Madness Ore, which can be forged into high-tier weapons and armor.
Where to Find Madness Ore in Skyrim
Madness Ore is one of the rarest crafting materials in Skyrim, and can only be found in a few specific places. Dungeon boss chests have a chance of containing the ore, and are scattered all across Skyrim. The bosses found in dungeons are some of the toughest enemies in the game, but they almost always have a chest nearby to reward players for defeating them. Dungeons can be anything from caves to castles, so players can explore freely while searching for Madness Ore.
For a more consistent method, Madness Ore can also be acquired from Khajiit traders after advancing far enough in the Saints and Seducers questline. Once players have received a note from Ri'saad informing them that he's stocking new materials, they'll be able to buy Madness Ore directly from his caravan, which travels from city to city between Whiterun and Markarth. Ri'saad's inventory restocks every two days, so skipping time to buy more is a viable tactic.
How to Use Madness Ore in Skyrim
Players can't use Madness Ore or Madness Ingots by default, instead, they have to learn the mysteries of crafting with Madness through a quest chain. This quest begins after defeating Thoron and is started by picking up the Note on Amber and Madness Ore which can be found near the powerful Skyrim boss.
This note will begin a quest to locate another boss, the arcane blacksmith Evethra, who has mastered the Madness Ore forging process. Once players have completed the quest and defeated Evethra, all they need to do is read her journal to unlock the secret for themselves. Madness weapons are superior to Skyrim's Dragonbone weapons, but also slightly heavier. Similarly, Madness armor offers more protection than Daedric armor, but again with the cost of increased weight.
