Bethesda's fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim takes players into a world of epic stories and mythical creatures. The main character, a Dragonborn, will perform countless quests for various NPCs throughout the game. One of these is the mission Laid to Rest, which can get dicey for those new to the experience. Continue reading this guide to finish the assignment quickly and get back to adventuring in Skyrim.

Many of the quests found in the game start from one of the major cities of Skyrim. Laid to Rest takes place in Morthal, which is one of the smaller cities in the game. Players can find this place deep in the Drajkmyr Marsh of Hjaalmarch. The current Jarl of the Morthal is Idgrod Ravencrone, and one of the potential NPCs for starting the mission.

Those looking to complete Laid to Rest will either need to speak to Jarl Ravencrone or locate the Imperial Guard Legate Taurinus Duilis. Either way, once speaking to the quest giver the Dragonborn will need to investigate a burned house in Morthal. Start from Highmoon Hall and head left, crossing over the boardwalk to locate the house. Once reaching the wreckage, the ghost of Helgi will appear and request that the player meet her at night.

At this point, the Dragonborn can explore Morthal or use the waiting feature to pass time until nightfall. After it gets dark, players will be able to find the ghost of Helgi. Unsurprisingly, her ghost is roaming the graveyard, which is north of Highmoon Hall and left before the bridge. Make sure to be ready for combat, because before this area one of Skyrim's classic vampires will attack. Finish off this creature and continue forward to speak to Helgi. Afterward, a character named Thonnir will appear before the Dragonborn and request an investigation of Alva's house.

Just follow the objective marker to locate the house. Keep in mind it is better to break in during the day as to not encounter Hroggar. The other benefit is that Alva herself will be sleeping in a coffin in the basement. The Dragonborn can either kill her outright to take the journal, utilize Skyrim's fun stealth builds to steal it without combat. Go back to Jarl Ravencrone and show the evidence to progress the mission. She will gather a mob to march on Movarth's Lair, and some can help the player if choosing the option "I have to go in alone?"

Equip gear to fight vampires, like the Dawnbreaker sword in Skyrim, and defend against magic. While exploring the cave there will also be some Frostbite Spiders but these should be quick kills with a bow or magic. When reaching the room with Movarth and his henchmen, stay on the high ground for an advantage. Utilize the Dragonborn's kit of abilities to take out the vampire and loot his cave afterward. Once this is done, go back to the Jarl and accept the gold reward for Laid to Rest.
