Skyrim has kept a steady fanbase for over a decade. Players keep coming back because of it's many mechanics and large open world. This is especially the case when players installed fan created mods. The game even received a 10th anniversary update for current gen consoles and PC. This update added some new items and quests for players to find.

If fans are returning for their umpteenth playthrough or starting out on their first journey it's best to explore the game's many useful tools. This includes cooking food. The Dragonborn can make meals that restore health and other effects. Players can follow this guide to learn how they can cook some Skyrim cuisine.

Cooking Pots

The Dragonborn must use cooking pots or cooking spits to make food in Skyrim. Cooking pots will be found in homes, inns, and kitchens. Some are located outdoors in bandit camps, but expect to find pots indoors. Cooking spits are mostly found outside in Imperial/Stormcloak camps. As opposed to the simple pot, spits will have an animal roasting over a fire. Players who have purchased or built homes can install cooking pots in them.

Speak to the steward in the city the home is located to buy a kitchen area. Simply walk up and interact with the pot/spit to cook. The menu will indicate which items can be made. Meals can be made by combining raw foods with other ingredients. This is useful for players who do not want to spend time tinkering with Alchemy and potions. Certain recipes will restore Magicka and stamina along with health.

Ingredients

Salt Piles are a very important ingredient while cooking food. Almost every recipe will involve combining raw food with a salt pile. These can be bought from Innkeepers along with Apothecary Merchants. They can also be used in potions. If players are looking to stock up they should search barrels throughout Riften. Many can be found at the Merryfair Farm northwest of Riften.

Raw food can be found all throughout Skyrim. Speak to innkeepers to buy raw ingredients for cheap prices. Check dining tables in camps and caves for free food. The Dragonborn should have no problem scavenging food throughout their adventures.

Poisoned Apples

This Dragonborn can also create poisoned apples. These were added as part of the 10th Anniversary Update with the free Rare Curios content. Apples can be found like most food items. Chokeberries can be purchased from the Khajiit caravans that travel the roads of Skyrim. Combine the two to make a poisoned apple. Reverse pickpocket a poisoned apple into a NPC's inventory and they will eat it. This is a sneaky way to assassinate Dark Brotherhood targets that will not count as a crime if done properly.
