  • Food-based antics are common in Skyrim, with players using cheese for various purposes, but this experiment shows that not all food is harmless, and players must be cautious.

One curious Skyrim player recently ate 20,000 gold’s worth of food in a single sitting, and the results were shocking to say the least. Even over a decade after its successful launch during the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 era, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim remains one of the most beloved open-world RPGs of all time, and it has since been ported to virtually every current gaming system. Just like Bethesda’s recent hit Starfield, Skyrim puts players in a massive fantasy setting where they can complete countless side quests and other activities at their own pace.

Naturally, Skyrim players have uncovered many surprising details while exploring the sprawling realm of Tamriel - which they later document on social media for the rest of the game’s fandom to see. Would-be Dragonborn have discovered guards in usual locations, uncovered unsettling secrets about their adoptive children, and even witnessed their loyal companion Lydia vanish into thin air during a battle. Of course, Skyrim allows the players themselves to cause all kinds of bizarre developments through their actions, such as transforming the entire Dawnguard into bloodthirsty vampires or figuring out how to deflect magic by dragging objects in front of them.

Skyrim Mod Lets Player Launch Deadly Blocks of Cheese at Enemies

A Skyrim player creates a hilarious mod that allows the player to literally cheese through a fight by launching deadly dairy blocks at their foes.

A Reddit user by the handle of amelix34 recently performed an unusual experiment in Skyrim by purchasing, and simultaneously eating, 20,000 gold worth of food, herbs, and potions. Their customizable Dragonborn character’s gluttony proves fatal, as they collapse to the ground and twitch in the throes of death immediately after clearing out their inventory. According to other users on r/skyrim, consuming a Jarren Root was the most likely cause of death, as it deals 1,000 points of damage. Strangely enough, these users have pointed out that amelix34’s avatar might have survived if they had eaten the herbs before the food, as it would have countered this lost health.

Food-based hijinks are nothing new to Skyrim fans, as one recently demonstrated their almost unsettling obsession with cheese by using it to build houses, craft armor, and even set up shrines to the dairy-loving Sheogorath, Daedric Prince of Madness. Another Skyrim player used cheese as an impromptu murder weapon against a cruel orphanage owner, while another employed a mod to replace the legendary Unrelenting Force Shout with a flying wheel of cheddar that can slay dragons.

It looks like cheese isn’t the only food that can kill in the world of Skyrim, as amelix34 recently learned the hard way after eating 20,000 worth of consumables at the same time. Skyrim remains one of the most successful and popular RPGs of all time thanks to the freedom it gives players to tell their own story in a faraway mystical land, and that story could end with them either saving the world from a sinister dragon or meeting an untimely end because they ate the wrong herb during a binge.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
