It's been an incredibly long road for Ubisoft's pirate title, Skull and Bones. The title has had no shortage of issues and controversies during its years of development as Ubisoft Shanghai delayed Skull and Bones numerous times, while also dealing with reported instances of workplace issues. However, through it all, Skull and Bones continued to get worked on with the studio even shifting development to incorporate a new vision, which has seemingly helped the game progress.

Over the past few months, Ubisoft has been more open with regards to Skull and Bones and how leadership is reportedly happy with how much progress the game has made. In fact, fans have been anticipating more information thanks to recent leaks and rumors which have provided new details on the open world pirate title. Even the ESRB has rated Skull and Bones, a step which is commonly taken once a game is nearing or finished development. Online rumors have indicated Skull and Bones would be getting a reveal in July and sure enough, that's now confirmed. Ubisoft revealed that its upcoming title is getting a special showcase later this week on July 7 at 11am PT / 8pm CEST through Ubisoft's official YouTube and Twitch channels. During the reveal, players will be seeing brand-new gameplay and the announcement also teases new details as well including potentially discovering "hidden treasures."

According to the official description, Skull and Bones will see players start out as an outcast, working their way to ultimately becoming an infamous pirate to build an empire through gathering resources, crafting tools and weapons, while also building ships. Skull and Bones also seems to take place predominantly in the Indian Ocean from the coasts of Africa to the island chains within the East Indies.

The description seems to align with a lot of recent leaks and rumors surrounding the game. In fact, one leak from late last year revealed new gameplay details regarding the island country of Madagascar. According to Tom Henderson, players will be visiting a pirate haven located there, allowing players to walk around, take on jobs, interact with NPCs, and even purchasing resources, gear, and other items. Progression is rumored to revolve around money earned through finishing jobs, cargo runs, and raids against other ships, settlements, and fortresses. As players upgrade their small raft, they'll soon be able to build different tiers of ships.

Skull and Bones is currently in development.
