Ubisoft's Skull and Bones gives players the opportunity to live out their pirating dreams as they take control of a seafaring captain and explore everything the Indian Ocean has to offer. There is an abundance of resources to gather, settlements and ships to plunder, as well as a host of other players sharing a server with you. It is through these multiplayer capabilities that Skull and Bones is able to include certain in-game features that require interaction from many players.

While it is possible to link up with your friends or other players and form alliances to take down more difficult enemy ships or settlements, it is also just as feasible to make enemies out of other players, too. This is especially true in Skull and Bones' random timed event called the Cutthroat Cargo Hunt, which pits players against one another in a bid to collect the treasure map and race to the assigned finish point. For those wanting to grab the high-value loot waiting for them, you'll want to know how to win a Cutthroat Cargo Hunt in Skull and Bones.

How to Enter a Cutthroat Cargo Hunt in Skull and Bones

Unfortunately, Cutthroat Cargo Hunts are not readily available at all times in Skull and Bones, but it would be unusual to not encounter at least one during a play session. They are randomly generated events that can appear at any point during your session and pop up at any given time on the game's map. To take part in one of these events, you simply need to hold the indicated button to fill the meter and be entered.

You can enter the event in one of two ways;

  • By holding the indicated button as the pop-up appears on the screen to tell you the Cargo Hunt is now available.
  • By opening the game's map, hovering your cursor over the Cargo Hunt symbol (distinguishable by the red skull), and entering manually through there.

Once you are entered, you will be able to check how long you will need to wait until the event starts and where the starting point is. By then, it's a good idea to use the Skull and Bones' fast-travel mechanics if needed to get to the starting position.

How to Win a Cutthroat Cargo Hunt in Skull and Bones

The objective of a Cutthroat Cargo Hunt is simple, but being able to complete it may not necessarily be as easy as it sounds. To win a Cargo Hunt, you need to acquire the cargo, take it to the destination, and find the hidden treasure. The competitive components of this event are only during the first two parts of this, as you'll secure victory once you dock at the winning settlement and will be able to take your time finding the loot.

While the objective is relatively straight forward, the PvP element of the event is what makes it so much more difficult than it sounds. In order to win, you'll need to get your ship to the end point with the cargo first. Players holding the cargo will become the prime target of other participants, so you can expect to be attacked if you hold it.

Cutthroat Cargo Hunt Player Tips

Depending on the number of competitors involved, a Cutthroat Cargo Hunt can be a significant challenge for both the leading player and their chasers. To pick up the victory, you need to be strategic, resourceful, and know when to be aggressive against other players. Here are some tips on how to claim the winner's loot.

Get In Early

Players will generally opt in for a Cargo Hunt a few minutes before the event is due to start and will be notified of the location of the loot. To give yourself the best possible chance of coming out on top, you should make the most of this time and make your way to the designated area as soon as you can. The race technically begins as soon as the location is revealed, so your best chance is to be the first to arrive.

Use Your Environment

You will have to traverse an extensive amount of water to make it to the finish line in a Cargo Hunt, but the direct passage there may not be the best option for getting to the end in one piece. The map is riddled with an extensive array of islands, passages, and detours you can use to get out of an enemy player's firing line and open the gap between you and them to make a cleaner getaway. It's a risky strategy, but a losing effort while on a detour would also buy you some time to try and get the loot back.

Manage Your Ship Stamina

The Cargo Hunt is both a marathon and a sprint, so you need to be able to manage the stamina of your crew or risk being overtaken and overrun. For starters, it's best to come prepared by stocking up your ship with an assortment of different foods - either raw or cooked - to refuel on the go. While you won't necessarily be able to sprint the entire way, those extra few seconds of stamina from food can be a real difference maker.

The other consideration for stamina maintenance is wind, as it can either be a huge asset or a major hindrance to your chances of winning. Consider pulling up your sails when faced head-on with a strong wind so as to avoid wasting your stamina, and drop the sails when the breeze is at your back for the most energy-efficient form of moving.

Maintain Your Ship's Health

As you and your fellow players will be decked out with an assortment of cannons, ballistics, and other weapons, you'll need to ensure you've got the resources to make quick repairs on the go. Consider visiting a vendor or looting some shipwrecks to ensure you have more than enough repair kits to mend any damage you take from incoming ships. The last thing a player needs when approaching the finish line is to run out of resources and end up destroyed before they have a chance to dock.
