Though Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown already delivers plenty, there are a few improvements and details that would be welcome in a sequel.

How To Board Enemy Ships

The key to boarding enemy ships in Skull and Bones is to first weaken them with your fully-customizable ship's firepower. Once they are close to being sunk, you'll be presented with the opportunity to board the vessel and finish off its crew once and for all. Unfortunately, you won't be able to partake in any epic boarding battles, but there are certainly benefits to boarding instead of blasting the ship into pieces.

To board an enemy ship, you need to come within close proximity to the vessel, use the aim button as you would when lining up your cannons to fire on the enemy, and press the indicated button to attempt to board. When you press the indicated button, your crew will throw a number of boarding hooks to connect your ship to the enemy. Your aim will need to be true, and it may take a few attempts before it is successful. It is also worth noting that it is very difficult to perform this action if there is a discrepancy between the speed of your ship and the enemy, so it is best to match their pace before attempting to board.

Should You Board An Enemy Ship?

Boarding an enemy ship requires more time, effort, and some patience to achieve, but it does come with benefits. It is generally only a viable option when there aren't many hostile ships around, as boarding can leave your ship vulnerable, but it is best to attempt to board when possible. In doing so, you will receive greater rewards for defeating a ship and its crew. This makes sense given that the ship is still intact, and its cargo is not floating in the sea for you to loot.

With that said, if you are dealing with multiple ships and picking them off one by one, you will still be rewarded for destroying any hostiles around you, as a shipwreck will include some of the vessel's prized possessions. However, if you are looking to maximize your loot with each naval combat encounter, it is best to board enemy ships at every possible opportunity.
