Players will do various tasks in Skull and Bones, including taking down enemy ships, smuggling items, looting valuables, and hunting animals for their hides and meat. Many of the Contracts regarding sea creatures come from the Sea People. Players will learn how to hunt from the Sea People, and eventually, they will hand out more challenging quests, asking for Apex hides and Prime Meat.

Prime Meats are considered a raw provision in Skull and Bones, and when cooked into meals, they have stronger effects than ordinary raw meats. However, players must hunt down apex animals to get their hands on the special meat. Apex animals in Skull and Bones are very aggressive and much larger than the standard sea creatures, so this guide has tips and tricks on finding and defeating them to harvest their Prime Meat.

Skull and Bones: How to Use a Pirate's Bonfire

A Pirate's Bonfire in Skull and Bones can offer game-changing boosts to you and your crew. Here is how to find and make use of them.

How to Get Prime Meat

Skull and Bones Prime Meat Alpha Hippo

Players will find many hostile sea creatures in Skull and Bones, like Crocodiles, Sharks, and Hippos. The only way to get Prime Meat is to hunt apex Crocodiles and Hippos. Players can recruit the help of others or team up to attack in groups. Sharks are found all over the seas near land, but Crocodiles and Hippos are limited to the rivers. If players go to their maps, they will see icons representing the nearby sea creatures, and hovering over them pulls up their labels. Normal animals appear as common species, such as Hippopotamus and Nile Crocodiles.

Skull and Bones Madcap Crocodile Location

Apex animals have different names, including but not limited to:

  • Alpha Hippo
  • Madcap Crocodile
  • Siren Crocodile
  • Bull Hippo

Apex animals will only appear on the map once players encounter them in the overworld or are given a contract to track them. While traveling along the rivers, keep an eye out for enclosed areas and paths. Apex animals are commonly found in these secluded spots.

Skull and Bones Upgrade Hunting Spear

Players will have to hunt them in their Dhow using their Hunting Spear. The Hunting Spear is considered a Tool and can be upgraded at the Carpenter in Sainte-Anne. Players should have at least a level three Hunting Spear and plenty of Repair Kits if they want an easier fight. Apex animals are significantly stronger than normal sea creatures and can sink a boat in less than three hits.

Skull and Bones Apex Crocodile Hunt Prime Meat

The best way to beat them is to hit them with the Hunting Spear in their weak spots, such as their head or chest. They will rear back before striking, and if you hit them right before they attack, it deals more damage and stuns them for a second. When all their health is depleted, they will drop Apex Hide and Prime Meat.

Apex animals will respawn after a certain time so players can farm resources from them multiple times. Prime Meat is some of the most valuable raw provisions aside from Monstrous Flesh, harvested from the world boss, Kuharibu.
