Ubisoft officially confirmed the dates for Skull and Bones' closed beta during its Ubisoft Forward Showcase on June 12. Players can register now for the Skull and Bones closed beta, which goes live for a few days in late August.

Skull and Bones has certainly had a long road to its open beta. Ubisoft started work on it in 2013, back when it was still an Assassin's Creed spinoff called Black Flag Infinite. In the subsequent decade, Skull and Bones would go through wild changes in vision, scope, and direction. Still, the game's troubled development finally seems to be ending, with Ubisoft planning to release Skull and Bones before the end of next year.

Announced during the Ubisoft Forward Showcase, Skull and Bones' closed beta is set to run from August 25 to 28. Fans can register now by visiting the game's official website at skullandbonesgame.com, letting them get an early taste of Ubisoft's upcoming pirate action game. The beta is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the publisher's digital distribution platform, Ubisoft Connect. PC players should also check the system requirements on Ubisoft's website to make sure Skull and Bones will run properly on the system.

The beta's announcement came following a new trailer that was accompanied by a live performance from the band Home Free. The group debuted their song Skull and Bones during Ubisoft Forward. Inspired by sea shanties, the music makes an excellent fit for the high seas adventures players will encounter in Ubisoft's Skull and Bones. The song itself is also available now on digital streaming platforms.

In addition to the musical performance and the closed beta announcement, that trailer also offered fans their best look at Skull and Bones so far. This includes a sneak peek at many exciting locations and encounters players will find in Skull and Bones' version of the Indian Ocean. Players also got a look at the options for ships and player characters and a sample of its explosive naval action.

However, notably absent from Ubisoft Forward was a showcase of Skull and Bones gameplay. While the in-engine trailer indicates the game's visual quality, it says little about what it plays like. Fans got a taste of Skull and Bones gameplay in January, but hopefully, Ubisoft will reveal more once the closed beta is underway.

Skull and Bones is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
