How Did Season 1 End?

SK8 The Infinity anime

Sk8 the Infinity follows Reki and Langa, two highschool students. Langa moves to town with his mother from Canada after his father's passing. He enrolls in the local high school where he meets Reki, an excitable young boy who's whole personality is his unrequited love for skateboarding. Seeking something new in this new town, Langa takes a liking to skating, for his snowboarding skills transferred to those needed for skateboarding. Under Reki's tutelage, Langa grows into quite the skater and a friendship is formed.

The series' antagonist, the flamboyant theatrical Adam, is one of the creators of the "S" track, the site of all the races. He is a very strong athlete at the sport and is desperately seeking his "Eve", someone to evenly rival him and give him the greatest race of all. Over the course of the anime, Adam grows particularly fond of Langa. As Langa becomes more of a force on the track, Adam's interests become even more piqued. He realizes that Langa is his Eve, and crafted a brand new track to upstage Langa on a grand scale. Ultimately, his dark competitive spirit lost to the pure and freeing style of Langa's skating.

What Do We Know About Season 2?

In a post on August 2022, the Sk8 the Infinity official Twitter account announced that not only was a second season confirmed, but a new OVA, as well. The main production team from season 1 will return for both projects. The actual release date for the two projects is yet to be confirmed.

A trailer was also posted on the official Twitter page and YouTube, conveying the same information. Fans are speculating that the new season will air in Autumn 2023.

Unlike most anime, Sk8 the Infinity is not based on a manga. In fact, a manga for the series was published after the anime was released. Therefore, viewers who sneakily check the manga for spoilers may be slightly frustrated at the lack of manga material! It is worth noting that the first season ended without any cliffhangers, so the new projects will definitely be spoiler-free for all fans.

So what can we expect from the new season? A new skateboarding course is a possibility, as it was teased at the end of season 1. The creator of the anime, Hiroko Utsumi, said in an interview that the location for the continuation of the series will be set in a shopping district. She also stated that the dynamic between Shadow and his boss will be more detailed. With the absence of an original manga, it is hard to predict what may occur in the future of Sk8 the Infinity, but the universal mystery for all fans is certainly exciting.

Sk8 the Infinity is available to stream on Funimation.
