Shang-Chi 2 is officially in the works currently at Marvel Studios, naturally leading fans and the stars of the film to contemplate on what they would like to see come to fruition in the sequel. Actor, Simu Liu, recently opened up in an interview as to what thoughts and outstanding questions have been brewing inside his head regarding the fate of his character and his spot in the overall MCU multiverse.

Liu made his presence known when he landed his breakout role in Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi, and he has secured yet another leading role in a film coming out next month. Although Liu seems to have been busier than ever in the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has still left many in a state of stagnation and limbo.

Shang-Chi was the second-highest grossing film in 2021, and fans seem to have had an instant affection for the film. There was practically no question as to whether or not a Shang-Chi sequel would be made, it’s more of when. However, Liu has had some time now to ponder on what aspects of his character he would like to delve more into specifically. Liu stated to Complex Canada, “I think just what Shaun decides to do with all this newfound power, you know? It kind of consumed his father, consumed Wenwu. I’m curious as to how someone much younger, much more inexperienced, would fare against the rings. Just this idea of all of a sudden being gifted something that’s so powerful but also so dangerous."

Liu added that his other questions include, "in what way does Shaun fit in with the rest of the MCU? Who are you going to see? What kind of crazy team-ups? What kind of tie-ins, Easter eggs? I’m just as much in the dark as everyone else, so I don’t know anything, but I’m excited to dive into that process." Little to nothing is known of the upcoming sequel so far. Director Destin Daniel Cretton will be returning for the sequel along with stars Awkwafina and Meng’er Zhang. Cretton has revealed that he has a loose map in his head of the overall plot for the second film, but has yet to share any more details.

The first Shang-Chi film's ending left much pressure for Shaun, all leading up to the massive responsibility that comes with acquiring immense, unthinkable power. Yet, Liu seems to be willing to go the distance when it comes to exploring the morals that reside within his character and the multiverse. Meanwhile, the anticipation for Shang-Chi 2 remains strong, regardless of a release date not yet in sight.

Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now available on Disney Plus.
