The Sims has been a mainstay of the video game industry for more than twenty years, captivating players with its in-depth household customization and character creation mechanics. EA confirmed a few months ago that The Sims 5 is in development, and while it's likely a few years away, fans of the franchise are still dreaming about what developer Maxis will have in store for this installment. The Sims 4 has been a sizable hit thanks to its many DLC expansions, but many fans who have stuck with the game since its release are ready to see how the series will evolve with The Sims 5.

One aspect of The Sims that has fans looking forward to The Sims 5 is the series' storytelling. While The Sims has always been about letting players develop their own story, the families who inhabit the game's world have their own stories to tell as well. The Sims Goth family is one of the best examples of this storytelling, but there are others with fascinating backgrounds that add depth to the Sims experience. Two such families are the Gooders and Bests, featured in the Sims 3Showtime DLC. These families have been out of the spotlight for some time, but The Sims 5 is the perfect opportunity to resolve their conflict.

The Gooder and Best Family Conflict in The Sims Explained

The Sims Best Family

The Sims has historically put a lot of effort into its premade families and their storylines. From the longstanding Goth family to The Sims 3's mysterious Doe family, each one has something special to offer. In the case of the Gooder and Best families, The Sims has a classic Romeo and Juliet scenario. Residing in Starlight Shores, these feuding families are ideologically and financially separate, as the affluent Gooder family sits in the lap of luxury while the Best family believes in honest hard work. Like any good Romeo and Juliet tale, however, the story of the Gooder and Best family doesn't stop there.

To add to the tension of the Gooder and Best family feud, Natasha Gooder is in love with Calvin Best. Much of The Sims 3: Showtime DLC sees these families at odds with one another, with Natasha and Calvin's romance adding more fuel to the fire. For longtime Sims fans, this story is likely very familiar, as The Sims 2 explored a much more on-the-nose storyline with the Capp and Monty families from Veronaville. While neither family has made an appearance in The Sims for many years, The Sims 5 is Maxis' opportunity to bring closure to at least one pair of star-crossed lovers.

How The Sims 5 Can Bring Peace to the Gooder and Best Family Feud

The Sims 5 needs to give its tutorial family a glow-up

The Sims 5 has an opportunity to go bigger and better than ever before, and that should extend to its NPC storytelling. For series veterans, resolving the Gooder and Best family conflict could be a highly satisfying development. Considering how much time has passed since The Sims 3, Maxis could go in one of two directions for it. The Sims 5 could have no time pass at all, and have players watch as each family come to grips with the romance between them. Conversely, The Sims 5 could jump far into the future and show the conflict resolved, with Natasha Gooder and Calvin Best living together in peace.

The Sims 5 has been a long time coming for many fans, and hopes are high that Maxis will deliver on already high expectations. That'll include maintaining The Sims' NPC family storylines, and the Gooder and Best family have the chance to be part of that equation. While The Sims 5 has more than enough families to explore, the franchise has yet to fully resolve either of its Romeo and Juliet inspired storylines, and few things can be more compelling than a star-crossed romance. Until Maxis and EA are ready to reveal more about The Sims 5, fans will just have to hope that closure will come eventually.

The Sims 5 is currently in development.
