The Sims 4 is one of the most elaborate building games out there. With tons of custom content, packs, and expansions available, you won't be running out of decor and ideas any time soon. Better yet, the tools we have to build have become better and better over the years, with the introduction of half walls, better stairs, and more options for inventive roofs.

Maxis usually tries to showcase all the good new things in a pack with its own pre-made builds, and while some of them are pretty nice and elaborate on their own, others leave us lukewarm, to say the least. Here are ten of the worst pre-made builds in The Sims 4 that will inspire you to go on a renovation spree.

9 Creek Side Corner

When Realm Of Magic came out, we were all excited for the new art nouveau style content, which had been sort of missing from the game up until then. Many players expected really decorative houses with elaborate details, but the houses in Glimmerbrook are really blocky and kind of meh.

The Creek Side Corner is a perfect example of a build that tries to embody that art nouveau style but could use some serious decorations. It looks like the house lacks detail and depth, making it far too plain and white due to lack of outside texture.

8 Fountainview Penthouse

Have you ever moved into the lonely Fountainview Penthouse in San Myshuno, only to discover that it's actually a massive letdown? To be fair, we understand what the goal was here: To create a low-end penthouse in the artsy part of the city that your Sims could realistically get to after a few promotions.

But when you move in and only see a bed, a kitchen, the bathroom, and a few outside furniture littering the place, it kind of hits you in the face. There should definitely be more here, especially in the main area, which lacks a nice TV area or even a bookshelf.

7 Honeydew Fields

From the brand new Discover University pack, you may have noticed there's one starter house in Britechester that lets your Sim live in the neighborhood, but stay off-campus. In general, the house blends in fine with its environment, but it looks far too blocky to be appealing.

Some serious depth could be added to it, not to mention it is very basic on the inside. It feels like it almost has too much room for a single resident, and you could probably get away with squeezing in at least three Sims here.

6 Chateau Peak

Ah, the much-debated and renovated Chateau Peak. This house is found in the Pinnacles of Del Sol Valley and is marketed as the ideal celebrity house. However, once you actually take a long hard look at it, it makes no sense.

The entrance leads on to a second floor, which in itself is a weird design choice. Inside, the house is entirely black and white, and very futuristic, which makes it very unoriginal and uninteresting. There's also that bottom floor bathroom leading to the bedroom that has no toilet, which is highly inconvenient. For a nice house like this, we definitely expected more.

5 Torendi Tower Penthouse

Back in San Myshuno, there's another penthouse we feel the need to roast, and that's the Torendi Tower Penthouse. Described as the ideal bachelor pad, you have all your sports equipment available, along with a pool, and a nice outdoor area.

However, the use of space is bizarre, with a dining table on the second floor while the kitchen is on the first floor. Not to mention, there's a random basketball court in the middle of the first floor, which would have looked much better on the second floor or even outside. With small tweaks or even a complete renovation, though, this place could become one of the best penthouses in the city.

4 Widowshild Townhome

Most people don't typically go to Forgotten Hollow to live, and for a good reason: It's always dark and ominous. Furthermore, it's a relatively small place with nothing to do. The neighborhood aside, its starter house is also a bit of an eyesore.

The Forgotten Hollow house shares many of the same issues as Britechester's Honeydew Fields. Mainly, the house is too blocky and contains too much space for just one Sim to live in it. This is a common issue with Maxis houses; sometimes, less is actually more. The house could use some texture and even a different, more unique shape to give it a nicer look.

3 The Old Salt House

The Old Salt House is one we are torn on. On paper, we love the idea of a modern home in the heart of the city; on the other, it just seems a little bit out of place. The house attempts to imitate an old industrial style building, but it comes off way too simple and misses the mark.

Not to mention, the fence that surrounds the entire lot is just absolutely hideous. Leave the fences for quaint neighborhoods like Willow Creek! The building aside, it has a nice view which, once renovated, should get a bit more love.

2 Inner Circle

No doubt one of the biggest letdowns ever, the Del Sol Valley starter home is truly an eyesore. While we understand its attempt at imitating a suburban Los Angeles style home, it's just too big and empty. The place definitely needs more detail and color, and the lack of those two definitely makes us wonder whether this screenshot is even from The Sims 4 at all.

The background looks more detailed and interesting than the house itself, which tells you everything you need to know about this poor excuse of a build. And let's not even get started about that fence!

1 Bedlington Boathouse

Brindleton Bay definitely has some of the weakest houses out of all the packs. The neighborhood attempts to be a more maritime version of Willow Creek but ends up being a little bit dull, with houses that just don't look that good.

While there might be some reason behind their designs, most houses - especially the Bedlington Boathouse - remain extremely basic despite demanding a higher price tag. They're also very dark on the inside, with acres of empty space that's screaming to be filled.
