The next roadmap of content releases for The Sims 4 has been teased by developer Maxis on Twitter. Previous roadmaps for the popular life simulator have detailed both free and paid content that will be available for players to download in the coming months. Since its release back in 2014, there have been over 30 expansions. The news comes following a tweet from EA content creator Julian/Iron Seagull to the official TheSims 4 account somewhat teasingly asking, "Hey @TheSims you awake? It’s roadmap time lol." The Official Sims 4 account replied with a cheeky NSync GIF indicating news that a roadmap of new content will be released sometime in May.RELATED: Skyrim Fan Builds Whiterun in The Sims 4The news might please some fans that have had to wait patiently for a new expansion for the aging Sims 4. The last large expansion called Cottage Living was released back in July 2021. Since then, players have been offered a new Game Pack in the form of the problematic My Wedding Stories, but there has been little else in the way of major new additions to the game.

The Sims 4 offers players four different sizes of DLC, the largest being Expansion Packs, which offer entire new areas and new gameplay mechanics, while Game Packs typically only introduce one new play mechanic. There are also Stuff Packs and Kits, which both offer small amounts of items, furniture, and clothing that are associated with a specific theme.

The Sims 4 has also received some free content updates in the past few months adding base content to the game such as new foods from around the world, new cultural clothing items, new hairstyles, and clothing designed by partnered content creators through the game's new Sims Delivery Express system. At the beginning of 2022, EA and Maxis released details regarding two kits and one game pack that were released in the first three months of the year. The last of those packs was the Decor to the Max Kit, which was released in March. Since then, EA and Maxis haven't released any news regarding a continuing 2022 roadmap.

Some Sims 4 Kits have been unpopular with players as the majority of fans would seemingly prefer larger DLC to be made for the game, but as it comes up on the Sims 4's 8th birthday in September, it would appear as though Maxis is inevitably slowing down its development of new content, potentially due to the development of the long-awaited Sims 5. The recent tweets from the developer of The Sims 4 will leave players hoping for possibly one last large expansion before any announcement of a new entry in the franchise.

The Sims 4 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
