The upcoming free Sims 4 update will allow infants to interact with household pets. The Sims 4 has been around for a few years, but it still has a lot to give its fans. After all this time, the Sims 4 base game went free-to-play recently, allowing more gamers to experience this great life simulator. Even without all the expansion and game packs, it's easy to get lost in the world of The Sims and spend hours upon hours controlling the life of these characters.

Players who are still experiencing the base game for the first time might not be done exploring everything there is to it yet, but more content is coming and it's all for free as well. A while back, the Sims Team announced that they would be releasing a base update to introduce a new infant life stage to The Sims; this would allow a better and more natural growth flow for all Sims.

Many fans feared how developed the infant life stage would feel, especially when interacting with other pack functionalities, in particular with the Cats & Dogs expansion pack. The community feared Sims pets would be left out, not only with the infants update but with the upcoming Growing Together expansion pack as well. Thankfully, it seems that won't be the same as during the Infants and Growing Together livestream, the developers mentioned twice that infants would be able to pet and interact with household pets.

It seems that new functionalities and mechanics that are being added with the update and new expansion pack will be fully compatible with other packs. The compatibility system, which will depend on how well Sims get along with other Sims with specific traits, will include traits exclusive to certain expansion packs. This truly makes the game feel more complete with each update that's added.

The livestream was quite informative, and it definitely shed a light on what is to come in mid-March; this left most Sims 4 fans even more excited for the free update. However, not everything has been revealed as the developers still want the players to find out some of the surprises on their own. It is odd to think of a time when The Sims 4 didn't have any toddlers, and babies would simply grow into children right away, so perhaps in a few months it'll be odd to think back to when there were no infants.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
