Back when The Sims 4 wasn't a thing, and all players had was The Sims 3, Generations was one of the most talked about expansion packs for the game whenever players discussed favorites. Now, a new entry to the series seems to be in sight with the introduction of Project Renee, and even though The Sims 4 might be coming to the end of its active life, players are still receiving additional content. Recently gamers got what many would refer to as The Sims 4's version of the Generations pack.
Just like its Sims 3 counterpart, the Growing Together expansion pack aspires to improve legacy gameplay and deepen family bonding. The Keepsafe Box was one of the many items added to the game in order to achieve this goal. This guide will explain how players can use this item in their gameplay and carry it to the next generation of Sims.
What Is The Keepsafe Box Item
Growing Together is a family-focused gameplay expansion pack, so when it was first announced, most gamers were under the impression that every life stage in The Sims 4 would receive tons of new content. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
The life stage that got the most attention with the Growing Together pack were infants, children, and adults. Teens and elders were, unfortunately, forgotten. Most gamers were accepting of the fact that teens didn't get that many additions because after all, not long before, the High School Years expansion pack was released, and they were the main focus of it.
Elders are the final life stage in the game, and they don't have that much going on for them, sadly. There were tons of possibilities for elders, such as the long-awaited addition of retirement homes, funerals, and walking sticks. One of the fun elder-exclusive content that was added to The Sims 4 with the Growing Together expansion pack was Keepsafe Boxes. Elders can set up their own Keepsafe Box to keep all the precious items that they've collected throughout their lives, and then give them away to a trusted close relative.
There are three different Keepsafe Box items in the Build-and-Buy mode, and that is exactly where players will have to go to purchase it. They can get the plastic Cheapskate Keepsafe Box for 100 Simoleons, the Basic Keepsafe Box for 240 Simoleons, or the Truly Ornate Keepsafe Box for 400 Simoleons. Regardless of which option the player decides to get for their Sims, they will all work just the same - they only look different.
How To Use The Keepsafe Box
Players can purchase any of the three available Keepsafe Boxes at any point in the game, but they will only be able to assign it to someone if they have an elder in their household.
In order to open a Keepsafe Box, the player must select an elder Sim, interact with it, and select the Designate Keepsafe Box; this will assign it to the elderly Sim, making it possible to store items inside. Nearly any dragable item or object can be placed inside the Keepsafe Box. Players can even store put entire meals inside the Keepsafe Box, but they will quickly spoil as they are outside a refrigerator.
Unfortunately, even though it should be considered a special item, Friendship Bracelets cannot be removed from the player's inventory, and therefore cannot be kept inside the Keepsafe Box.
How To Change Family Dynamics With The Keepsafe Box
The family dynamics mechanic is a big part of the Growing Together expansion pack. As soon as players started learning more about it, they were impressed with how much it could impact family gameplay.
Players can set family dynamics in the Household Relationships menu when first creating a household of Sims. Once it's been created though, unless the player has activated the full edit mode cheat in Create-a-Sim, it won't be possible to set a family dynamic later on. If dynamics aren't set, the game can eventually suggest a dynamic according to how two Sims get along in Live mode. It opens up tons of storyline possibilities and deepens the relationships between household Sims.
The Keepsafe Box gives players a way to easily create their own family dynamics. By interacting with this item, the Sim can ponder different meanings for what they think family means, and, depending on their choice, they will set a family dynamic with the next member of the family they speak to.

Giving Away The Keepsafe Box
Once the designated elder has put everything that they'd like to protect and keep in the family inside the Keepsafe Box, they can entrust it to another Sim.
An elder can hand the Keepsafe Box to another Sim by selecting the Entrust Keepsafe Box To option when interacting with it. They can choose whoever they'd like as long as they're acquaintances or closer. The other Sim doesn't actually have to be that close to the elder or part of the same family or household; as long as both Sims are on the same lot, they can be entrusted to it. It's like there aren't more restrictions due to Sims that have no family or heirs left and would simply like to entrust it to someone else.
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
