One of the most oft-requested expansion packs for The Sims 4 has finally been confirmed by Electronic Arts, and it's sure to leave fans purring. Today, EA announced that The Sims 4 would get a series-favorite pets expansion, which now officially dons the moniker of Cats and Dogs. The pet-focused expansion will allow gamers to create and design pets, interact with them, and generally enjoy the companionship one typically does with their four-legged friends.

The pet creation aspect will allow gamers to pick (and mix) from a variety of breeds for both cats and dogs, and then take things a step further by adjusting the patterns and color blends of their fur. This time around, gamers will have the option to dress up their feline friends for special occasions, and we can only hope this means birthday parties will never be devoid of hotdog-costumed wiener dogs again. Pets will also have unique personality traits, helping make sure each pet has a touch of uniqueness beyond their cosmetic appearance.

The Sims 4 Pets Expansion

The specific Cats and Dogs expansion name is a strong indicator that this generation's pets expansion won't include horses like the expansion for The Sims 3 did, but that's relatively par for the course since expansions in The Sims 4 have consistently been more tightly focused regarding more specific additions. With toddlers finally included in the game features and pools having been added long ago,  The Sims 4 and its corresponding expansions have followed the tried-and-true direction that The Sims series has taken each generation since its launch in 2000.

The Cats and Dogs expansion also introduces a brand new business opportunity for pet-loving Sims: a veterinary clinic. The clinic will function just like a proper Get To Work career, meaning gamers will head to work with their sim and spend the day assessing sick puppies, managing the clinical staff, and more importantly coming ever closer to being surrounded by husky puppies all day, every day.

As is expected with each expansion pack, a new town with expansion-focused lots will be introduced. Cats and Dogs will feature a town named Brindleton Bay, and it'll feature a plethora of outdoor locations where Sims can take their pooches: the harbour front for walks, obstacle courses at the park, and lighthouse treks will all be available in the cozy coastal township.

The Sims 4 is available now for Mac and PC, with a console release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One due November 17. The Cats and Dogs expansion will launch on November 10 for Macintosh and PC.
