Fans have been clamoring for a Shaun of the Dead sequel since 2004, and Simon Pegg recently gave them an update on the potential project.

Shaun of the Dead was released in 2004 and became a comedy classic. The zombie romantic comedy starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Shaun and Ed, who must survive the breakout zombie apocalypse in London. The movie was so successful that it spawned the Cornetto Trilogy, which includes Hot Fuzz and The World's End. Pegg co-wrote each script in the Cornetto Trilogy with director Edgar Wright.

Shaun of the Dead is fast approaching its 20th anniversary, yet Pegg revealed that fans are still asking about a sequel. Unfortunately, Pegg says a follow-up for Shaun of the Dead isn't on his to-do list. “The last thing you need is Shaun of the Dead 2,” he said during a Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One interview with The Guardian. “It’s done. Move on!”

Although there are no plans for a Shaun of the Dead sequel, that doesn’t mean Pegg is done writing. Pegg has been teasing fans with a new team-up with Wright since 2022. Nothing has come of it yet, but Pegg says the duo has a few ideas worth exploring. However, progress on anything concrete has been slow, which Pegg mainly blames on Wright's dog distracting them while they brainstorm. Whatever the pair writes, Pegg promises it won’t be a repeat of what they’ve already done. Pegg said of the future project, “I like the idea of pissing people off…We should just do something that no one’s expecting.”

Despite finding success together, Pegg and Wright haven’t created anything together since 2013’s The World's End. Some of Wright's most recent work includes Baby Driver and Last Night at SoHo. He’s also working on a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger dystopian film The Running Man. Pegg, on the other hand, has several successes under his belt, most recently reprising his role in the Mission Impossible franchise. Star Trek fans recognize Pegg as the Enterprise's resourceful engineer, Scotty.

Shaun of the Dead is available on Amazon Prime Video.
