Despite not having an official release in nearly a decade, Silent Hill has managed to retain a dedicated following of fans. With unsettling, ambient environments, a dark, oppressive atmosphere, and monster designs that remain some of the most horrifying video game monsters of all time, the legacy of Silent Hill can still be felt within the gaming community today. So much so that one fan has created a piece of artwork inspired by Silent Hill, using an unorthodox form factor.

Over the span of several games, Silent Hill has spawned a number of memorable characters. From James Sutherland, the lead protagonist of Silent Hill 2, to Heather Mason, the adopted daughter of Harry Mason, who served as the protagonist of Silent Hill 1. Many of these characters perfectly complement the perturbing tone of the series in various different ways. However, one of these characters served as the centerpiece of an artwork inspired by one the most mysterious characters from Silent Hill 2.

Over on Reddit, a user by the name of SoulOfGwyn has created a piece of art depicting Maria, the main antagonist of Silent Hill 2. One of the most striking aspects of this piece is the use of rust and metal to outline Maria's profile. Rust has played an integral part of the aesthetic of Silent Hill since the very first installment and the use of it in this painting allows for a deeper association to the franchise.

While some fans may not take too kindly to the use of the box art for the Silent Hill HD Collection, considering all the controversy surrounding it, but the artistic depiction of Maria on both the box art and the painting is extremely artistic. Given how noticeable the contrast between Maria's white outline and the black portions of the box art, the use of rust as a form factor makes for a rather unique creation.

It's amazing how much Silent Hill has managed to persist as a franchise, in spite of not having a consistent presence within the gaming community. It's been almost eight years since the cancellation of Silent Hills, and many fans of the series are still waiting for the franchise to make some kind of return.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Silent Hill going forward. For the past couple of years, there have been infrequent rumors spreading that Hideo Kojima may return to work with Konami on Silent Hills. These rumors have so far proven to be unfounded, but considering the success of the recent remakes of classic Resident Evil games, it might be time for Silent Hill to get the same treatment.
