One of the most persistent rumors of the year has been that a new Silent Hill title is on the verge of being revealed. Teased on forums by various folks claiming to be in the know, the unsubstantiated claims that a new game is on the way have had fans on the edge of their seats. All the chatter was supposed to culminate in an announcement at The Game Awards, but never materialized. Now, one of the earliest sources of the Silent Hill rumor is doubling down on their information.

Since P.T. left an indelible mark on the horror genre back in 2014, talk of a Silent Hill (or Silent Hills) revival has never been far from fans' minds. The uptick in leaked information recently is giving fans more hope than ever that something could actually be in the works. These rumors took a hit recently when Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama announced he was leaving Sony Studio Japan to form his own studio. With the game touted as being a PS5 exclusive, losing someone of Toyama's pedigree has fans worried. It hasn't stopped the rumor mill however.

On a Silent Hill forum on ResetEra, user "Dusk Golem" who claims to have been the first to speak publicly about the new Silent Hill game is insistent that the game is still going ahead. The user reiterates the information they received from sources the user claims are credible. Everything Dusk Golem describes certainly sounds plausible, that Konami was shopping around for a developer to revitalize the franchise, and that a Japanese developer started work on a Silent Hill title some time in 2019. With a collection of Silent Hill rumors starting to build around the possibility of a return, it would be strange for it to be complete vaporware.

The news that a number of the original staff members who worked on Silent Hill are moving to the newly formed Bokeh Game Studio, has fans split on whether this is a good or bad sign. Is the new studio part of this rumored Silent Hill project? Or is this new studio going to be something entirely different, pulling talent away from a new Silent Hill?

With The Game Awards having come and gone without so much as a peep regarding Silent Hill, attention shifts to the next event where a big game reveal could happen. The same user from the ResetEra forum tweeted out a rumor that a PlayStation event would take place early next year. Fans are already looking to that event as a potential landing spot for a big Silent Hill reveal. Only time will tell.
