According to a Konami producer, the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake from Bloober Team is "in the final stages of development." The original Silent Hill 2 is often pointed to as one of the best survival-horror games ever made, and so it's really no surprise that many fans were excited when a remake was announced.

Following months of leaks, the Silent Hill 2 remake was officially announced in October 2022. The Silent Hill 2 remake announcement confirmed that the game would be developed by Bloober Team, the studio best known for horror game projects like the Layers of Fear titles and The Medium, a game that clearly took inspiration from the Silent Hill series. It was also confirmed that the Silent Hill 2 remake would be a PS5 console exclusive, though the game is also coming to PC.

The Silent Hill 2 remake is under heavy criticism for its combat and yet it's debatable that the original never had decent or effective combat anyhow.

Fans have been waiting nearly two years to get their hands on the Silent Hill 2 remake, and luckily, the wait is seemingly coming to an end. In an interview with Famitsu (translated by VGC), Konami producer Motoi Okamoto said, "We are in the final stages of development," in regards to the Silent Hill 2 remake. The last time fans got a big update on the Silent Hill 2 remake's progress was at the latest PlayStation State of Play event, which featured the survival-horror franchise prominently. Besides giving fans an update on the Silent Hill 2 remake, the latest State of Play event also featured the surprise announcement and shadow drop of Silent Hill: The Short Message, a free, experimental Silent Hill PS5 exclusive game.

We are in the final stages of development.

Unfortunately, the State of Play seemed to leave fans more worried about the Silent Hill franchise than excited about its future. Silent Hill: The Short Message received mostly negative reviews, and many fans expressed their concerns about the Silent Hill 2 remake after its State of Play trailer. Instead of focusing on the haunting atmosphere and scares that the series is known for, the Silent Hill 2 remake State of Play trailer was combat-heavy. The backlash was enough that Bloober Team has actually pinned the blame on Konami for the trailer, so it will be interesting to see if there are any further developments on that end.

While some fans may have been disappointed by Silent Hill 2's combat-focused trailer, the good news is that the game is nearing the end of its development. Hopefully, Silent Hill fans don't have to wait too much longer to play the long-awaited remake for themselves.
