A lot of horror fans are eagerly awaiting Bloober Team's reimagining of the iconic Silent Hill 2, but there's been talk among the community that the developer may employ its patented technology as seen in The Medium. Over the last few years, there have been a slew of successful video game remakes, especially in the horror genre. Whether fatigue will set in and players will become sick of seeing old games making a comeback cannot be said, but for now, there are more remakes to look forward to.

No one's quite sure when Bloober Team will release its modern take on Silent Hill 2, but given that the developer has reportedly been working on it since 2019, there are hopes that it will be coming out this year. However, that's just conjecture at this stage. There's also, for good or ill, more speculation that's been brewing recently regarding whether the remake will utilize a specific mechanic.

User bobvids on Twitter has given their thoughts about the upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2, theorizing that the game may feature the studio's dual-reality technology that was first seen in The Medium. This response came about after visual artist and content creator Rino posted a checklist of all the things that could make the upcoming remake a success. One of the items in the list says that Konami has been "wowed" by Bloober's concept for the game, which led bobvids to speculate that this could be in relation to the studio's dual-reality tech. They point out that this seems supported by the fact that the minimum specs on PC seem "weirdly high" and almost on par with the requirements for The Medium.

For those who aren't aware, the 2021 horror game The Medium featured a unique dual-reality mechanic which, at various points during the story, allowed the screen to split into two worlds that existed simultaneously. Player movements are mimicked in the spirit realm, with the game requiring the protagonist to solve puzzles utilizing this dual-reality system. It should be pointed out that there's been no confirmation on whether Silent Hill 2 will also have this feature, but a few others commenting on bobvids Twitter reply have shared their own opinions, with daven_skilnyk suggesting that it might be used to show the realities of other characters.

As well as the SH2 remake, Bloober Team is also working on a new Layers of Fear, which is due to release sometime in 2023. The studio is evidently keeping busy, but what many will be focussing on is whether the developer is able to modernize and successfully bring back one of the most influential survival horror games of all time.

Silent Hill 2 is currently in development for PC and PS5.
