This year is shaping up to be an exciting time for fans of MMORPGs, as there is no shortage of options available on the market. While there are popular titles such as New World and Final Fantasy 14, many gamers have started checking out Lost Ark, the most recent game published by Amazon Games. Among those logging on to play the title is Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek.

While Shroud became one of the most popular names on Twitch playing first-person shooters such as CS:GO and PUBG, he more recently has been spending his time playing MMORPGs. Back at the end of 2021, he put many hours into playing New World. Even though he no longer streams much of that game, he has found another to fill the MMORPG-shaped void. Specifically, that game is Lost Ark, and the popular streamer cannot seem to get enough of the gameplay experience.

Recently, shroud revealed the extent of his love for Lost Ark. During a live stream, he decided to take a look at his previous spending on his Steam account. The streamer took viewers on a trip down memory lane as he recounted the various expenditures he had racked up on the platform over the years, starting way back in 2008. While some years he purchased more than others, nothing compared to the amount of money he had spent at the beginning of 2022.

The reason for this increase in spending came down to one game, Lost Ark. “And then Lost Ark happened,” he said. After listing off a staggering amount of purchases relating to the MMORPG, he took a moment to add up all the money he had spent on microtransactions. Amazingly, he concluded that he had spent over $2,000 on the game. While this total is impressive, it is made even more incredible considering that Lost Ark was released only a few weeks ago in the west.

Interestingly, this news from shroud comes a few days after he had made comments about the microtransaction systems in Lost Ark. According to the streamer, players should “get over” the pay-to-win aspect of the game. While he realized that microtransactions were a significant part of the game, they were something he was comfortable with at this point. This is a fact that his extravagant spending on the game appears to prove.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for shroud and Lost Ark. While it is logical to think that he would plan on playing the game for the foreseeable future due to the money he has invested, this might not be the case. The streamer revealed that he spent so much money that he was running out of content that he could do. Time will tell if the popular streamer decides to put even more money into the game through microtransactions in the future.

Lost Ark is available on PC via Steam.
