Anime villains have always been considered bad guys, who mindlessly kill people and destroy everything. While it is true that having good causes does not justify murdering people, sometimes they can be more humane than the protagonists in a series.

9 Scar

Scar was the lone survivor of the civil war, where a multitude of people was killed to satisfy the needs of Amestris. The State Alchemists murdered people brutally and among those people was Scar's brother. Before dying, Scar's brother gave him his right arm.

With the power of this right arm, Scar managed to kill several State Alchemists. He wanted justice, but he strayed from his path and he killed innocent people. However, Scar felt the guilt and realized his mistake, and he took down one of the Homunculus.

8 Teruki Hanazawa

Teruki Hanazawa is a talented esper, who can use his powers better than most of the other espers. He was confident in his ability and he believed that he deserved to be at the center of the world.

But after his defeat to Mob, he realized that there were stronger espers than him. Eventually, he became Mob's friend and helped him many times, showing that he had a good side to him.

7 Ikalgo

Ikalgo is a Chimera Ant, who was a part of Leol's squad. He was sent to kill Killua by Flutter. Ikalgo and Flutter got along well and managed to injure Killua. However, after Killua saved Ikalgo's life inside the cave, the latter realized his mistakes.

Ikalgo actually helped Killua to escape from the cave and he joined his group. Ikalgo went on to aid the group in their fight against Meruem and the three royal guards.

6 Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha was born into the prestigious Uchiha Clan, which is considered one of the strongest clans in the village. As he grew up, Itachi was forced to make a very tough decision. He had to choose between his clan and his village – Itachi ended up choosing the latter.

He had to kill his own parents and put his younger brother through an immense amount of mental pain. Itachi was branded a rogue, but he only wanted to protect his brother and the village. He couldn't clear his name even before his death.

5 Bon Clay

In a world full of pirates, where killing and looting are the norms, Bon Clay showed that there are people who can be very selfless. He was originally fighting against the Straw Hats, but eventually, he realized that the crew was amazing and they were really good people.

Despite not spending a lot of time with the crew, Bon Clay sacrificed his freedom for the sake of Luffy and co. During the Impel Down arc, Bon Clay once again made a huge sacrifice as he decided to stay behind to let the other Impel Down prisoners escape to Marineford.

4 Enrico Pucci

Enrico Pucci is the main villain of StoneOcean. Pucci drew a lot of inspiration from DIO and after spending enough time with the malevolent vampire, Pucci developed his own ambitions. Pucci toiled a lot to get his hands on the Stand, which would allow him to change everything.

Pucci planned to create a universe that had no kind of evil. He knew that he would have to sacrifice some lives, but in his mind, he only wanted to create a world where everyone could live peacefully.

3 Lelouch VI Britannia

Lelouch VI Britannia is among the smartest anime characters. He had a difficult childhood and it caused turned him into a very calculating individual. Once Lelouch gained the Geass, he took the opportunity and launched a rebellion against Britannia.

Eventually, things got out of hand and it led to him killing several innocent people. Lelouch became a villain, but he still fought to free Japan from the clutches of Britannia. Towards the end, he faked his death to unite the people of the world.

2 Hanami

Hanami is a cursed spirit from Jujutsu Kaisen. Unlike most cursed spirits, who derive pleasure from killing humans, Hanami intends to protect the environment around them. Hanami believes that mankind is solely responsible for all the damage caused to the environment. So, he actively tries to kill humans and wants to erase them from existence.

1 Nagato Uzumaki

Nagato Uzumaki is a major antagonist that is featured in Naruto. He formed Akatsuki with Yahiko and Konan, and all they wanted was world peace. However, after Yahiko was forced to kill himself, Nagato became furious and Akatsuki changed their ways.

He decided that to attain peace, he needed to use force. Under Nagato, the Akatsuki caught tailed beasts and murdered anyone else who stood in their way. However, he never strayed from his true goal and when he was defeated by Naruto, he revived all the people who were killed with his Almighty Push.
