Atlus has recently revealed Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance and announced that the title will be released on June 21, 2024. Shin Megami Tensei 5 was originally released for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, and it became a critically acclaimed entry in the franchise, but it never received ports or enhanced editions until now.

The first details about the game’s existence surfaced earlier this week when Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance was rated in South Korea. The rating was quickly removed from the internet, but the leak implied that the title, which would be a complete edition with extra content, would be officially announced soon.

Persona 6 could benefit from including certain Shin Megami Tensei 5 demons in its compendium, so hopefully they aren't left out of the party.

Soon after that, Atlus announced the existence of Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance during a Nintendo Direct and confirmed that the JRPG will be out on June 21. While the game was revealed during a Switch-focused event, it will also be available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Back when it was released in 2021, Shin Megami Tensei 5 received glowing reviews, so this seems like a good opportunity to play the title on other platforms.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance Trailer

This updated version of SMT5 will have two complete storylines: the “Canon of Creation” and the “Canon of Vengeance,” which can be chosen at the start of the game. By following the first route, players will get the original Shin Megami Tensei 5 experience. The other path, however, will see significant changes in the middle and later parts of the story, including the introduction of four female demons who appear to be antagonists, as well as more unspecified new content. Atlus revealed that Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will have day one DLC. However, the DLC for the first version of the game will be included for free in Vengeance.

2024 has been a good year for Atlus fans. It started with the release of the popular Persona 3 Reload, and now SMT5 will get this new edition with more content. Metaphor: ReFantazio is also planned for later in 2024, and will be a brand-new experience. If it depends on Atlus, however, there may be even more surprises in the future. Earlier this month, a leaker teased more Persona remakes and other Atlus games. According to them, the Japanese company could be working on remakes of Persona 1, 2, and 4, a remaster of an undisclosed Shin Megami Tensei game, and a brand new SMT title, which could be SMT: Digital Devil Saga.
