Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance adds lots of new skills, demons, and areas to explore. Some of these new items are known as Periapts, which give players access to new Magatsuhi Skills based on the demons in their party.

These abilities range greatly in terms of use and will require demons of a specific alignment to use them. These abilities will also fully use up the player's Magatsuhi bar, and give more options to choose from in battle, as opposed to just the options from the base game.

How To Use Combination Magatsuhi Skills In Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance

As players complete subquests such as Brawny Ambitions and explore the Netherworld, they will find Periapts. Periapts are key items that unlock a unique Combination Magatsuhi skill that can be used by demons of a listed alignment. To use these abilities, only one of the required demons will need to be in your active party, and on their turn, they can use a filled Magatsuhi bar to use that ability. The other demon required will only need to be summoned and in your stock, but doesn't need to be in the active party.

Players can view a list of the Combination Magatsuhi skills they have access to by going to the Skills menu of the main menu. Any demon that fits the criteria to use a Combination Magatsuhi skill will have it appear by their other skills, along with a breakdown of what that skill does specifically. When used in battle, these Magatsuhi skills won't use a Press Turn icon, and essentially act as a free turn for whatever demon uses the ability. Some of the ways to charge Magatsuhi are listed below:

  • Picking up red Magatsuhi Crystals outside of combat.
  • Hitting weaknesses. (Unlocked with the Fell Swoop Miracle)
  • Slight charge each turn in battle. (Boosted with the Embolden Miracle)
  • Earned at the start of battle. (Unlocked with the Constant Vigilance Miracle)

How To Check Demon Alignment In Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance

A Demon With Their Listed Alignment On Screen

Using a Combination Magatsuhi skill requires demons of specific alignments to be summoned to get access to the skill. To check a demon's alignment, select a demon in the party menu and press the Lore button in the bottom right of the screen. Their alignment will then be displayed in the top right of the screen. A demon's alignment is set in stone and can't be changed.

This same display can be pulled up in the Demon Compendium in the World of Shadows, letting players quickly identify demons of a specific alignment to summon them to use a Combination Magatsuhi skill. There are a huge number of demons in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, making it easy to use any Magatsuhi skill, even if you have a weak demon sitting in your stock just to get access to a specific skill.
