One of the first games revealed for the Nintendo Switch was Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei 5. Since the initial announcement, there hasn't been much in the way of additional updates about the game or what it will entail. However, fans finally got another look of the highly-anticipated title during Nintendo's surprise Nintendo Direct Mini presentation, which focused on third-party games from "partner" studios.

Shortly after confirming a Shin Megami Tensei 3 HD remaster, Nintendo showed a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei 5. The trailer showed a ton of demons on-screen at once, all flying around a massive demonic entity who says, "The God you worship is dead." The scene then cuts to a Japanese person walking in a crowd, only to suddenly find themselves in a desert-like world. They join forces with a mysterious figure, presumably to fight back against the demons, and then the trailer ends.

The new Shin Megami Tensei trailer ends by giving fans a release window of 2021, with the game getting a simultaneous global launch, uncommon for Atlus games. While it's still pretty vague, it's better than not having any idea of when the game is going to come out, which is what fans have been dealing with since its original announcement. And while a specific release date in 2021 wasn't confirmed for Shin Megami Tensei 5 during the Nintendo Direct presentation, it seems likely that it will be at some point in the second half of the year.

After all, the Shin Megami Tensei 3 remaster is coming Spring 2021, and one would imagine that Atlus would want there to be some time between the games so as to not cannibalize each other's sales.

On the bright side, the fact that Shin Megami Tensei 5 is getting a simultaneous global launch could be an indication that the company is going to start releasing all its games worldwide. The Persona franchise in particular seems as though it would benefit from this, especially as it has gotten much more popular in western countries in recent years.

Whatever the case may be, now that Atlus has given fans a new Shin Megami Tensei 5 trailer, hopefully information on the game comes at a more regular pace.
